VR to appear on cover of "Tears In Heaven"
«

January 18, 2005, 04:03:12 PM »
Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne continue to seek ways to help tsunami victims in Southeast Asia, announcing Monday their plans to record a cover of Eric Clapton's "Tears in Heaven" to benefit storm recovery efforts. And they've managed to line up a whole galaxy of stars to help.
Gwen Stefani, Pink, Velvet Revolver, Steven Tyler, Elton John, Rod Stewart and Ozzy and Kelly Osbourne are among the artists lending their voices to the song, sales of which will benefit the Disasters Emergency Committee's Tsunami Earthquake Appeal.
The recording sessions will take place on two continents, starting this Thursday at London's Whitfield Street Studios, where Velvet Revolver, Elton John and Italian opera star Andrea Bocelli will lay down vocals. The following week, Stefani, Stewart, the Osbournes, Josh Groban and Robbie Williams will record their tracks in Los Angeles. Pink is set to record in New York, and Tyler will do his vocal work in Boston.

Im confused...by Velvet Revolver, do they mean Scott Weiland?? Because they only mentioned vocals...
Or will VR also do the music, of which there was no mention...

Since they only mentioned artists names (and not bands) except for VR, I reckon they confused VR with Weiland indeed.
Edit: I didn't see it was only one song. Hmm...maybe Slash is gonna do a solo or something?

WOW!
Slash and his boys are doing everything they can to "heal the world". He definitly took a cue from his old boy Michael Jackson, but unlike him is not caught up in any lawsuits, nor in any shopping sprees for little boys.
Im assuming that because there were no other bands mentioned in the list of musical artists for this benefit, that that will mean that Scott Weiland does some singing and the bandmembers will contribute musical parts to the song, much in the same way that Phil Collins drummed on BAND-AID in 1984. Slash's killer guitar melodies should help revive this song in a way that will make the lives of thousands of people a little bit better.
I wonder where Axl is in all this

Although I think the whole "benefit single" single is a little cheesy, it is for a good cause and the fact that we'll get to hear a new VR recording is a very good thing.
I can just picture Slash ripping into that song too!

On the BBC site, it would appear the band are laying down the music tracks today.
But then it also adds that one of VR's members is "Guns N'Roses guitarist Slash"

The line up for the song sounds great, but...Kelly Osbourne? If its a benefit single they should choose people that can sing to make sure someone buys it.

I dunno Youngunner.
But for a guy who once signed his band up for such charities as "FARM AID - 1990" and the "Queen 1992 Tribute at Wembley" which helped fund AIDS research and issued CIVIL WAR for the "Romanian Charity Album in 1990" and gave the proceeds of "Look At Your Game Girl" to Charles Manson's victims and tried getting his band signed up for the "Gay Men's Health Crisis 1989 Benefit" and even professed how badly he wanted to support Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment, he hasn't done didly shit since 1994.
You could make the excuse that he's been caught up in making music and sorting out his own personal life, but he hasn't even lent his name or his talents to any worthy and charitable causes. Instead, he sits atop nice and pretty in his mansion watching the sunrise and set. Im just happy that the ex-Gunners are able to salvage the GNR name in any way they can. People will now hear VR's contribution to this cause and some people's preconceptions of GNR having been this stuck up rock band may subside somewhat.
We need Axl to get off that mountain and give back to a world that really gave him so much to be grateful for

How the hell would you know that? I would bet you Axl does a lot more stuff for charity than you think. He might not get publicity for it but that means dick. I bet you he does stuff for child abuse programs. ANd I bet those kids at all those Halloween parties he has arent all family/friends........

Thats a ridiculous statement. SO in order to be credible one must tell the world that they do charity work? theres an old saying about that........

You answered the first statement ok.
You didn't even touch the other statements because they're real as real can be.
You are right that Axl has Halloween parties for kids, but supposedly their parents are there, not a charitable organization. So the Halloween parties are really just an event for children but not particularly for those who had to deal with what Axl dealt with.
Axl has never publicized any particular any contributions to any charity since he donated proceeds from the "Look At YOur Game Girl" to Charles Manson's victims. Maybe thats because he's never given charity, or anything substantial thats worth publicizing.
You still fail to give Slash, Duff. Matt, Scott & Dave any props for their ongoing charitable works. Once again you come on the VR boards to defend Axl when he does not not merit any defense because he's gone back on everything he once stood for publicly.
A man who was the posterchild for "self expression" in the glory days of GNR can't even issue apologies to fans who get caught up in canceled concerts, let alone speak out on anything happening at all. Its been too long now and the fact that he even had public appearanced as recent as 2 years ago demonstrates that he can get out there in public if he wanted to. But he chooses not to. I guess we'll have to wait for the next Grand Theft Auto to hear from him again.
In the meantime, I can't wait to get my hands on the next VR record - or make it their next song, which actually promises to make the world a better place!

Or maybe he feels he can do it quietly???

But he hasnt been in the public eye for more than a decade. Not with his career or in any capacity. SO now you want him to come out of the woodwork and say hey world I just donated "x" amount to "x", etc.? Then you and many others would be the same people saying hes out? for some free publicity to reshape his image or something like that.

SO does the world stop? Good for them. Thats a nice thing to do. Im glad to see they are doing something for the community. They are celebrities and should be giving back to charities, that spart of thier job. SO for me to be praising them would be kinda silly.
Quote
Once again you come on the VR boards to defend Axl when he does not not merit any defense because he's gone back on everything he once stood for publicly.
I come here because you brought Axl into the conversation accusing him of not being charitable. When you have no clue if he does or doesnt. ANd Im willing to bet he probably has done more with charities and stuff liek that more than "the boys" have done.
What exactely are VR doing? All they are doing is contributing on a song for a good cause. And thats great. But Im pretty sure Axl has done things on his own, privately that doesnt involve music as a source of action for something. As im sure the vr guys have done privately throughout the years as well.
You keep bringing up what he once did in public...well guess what...wasnt Axl in the spotlight back then? Wasnt that when he was actually around? He went into a hole and no1 has heard for him since. But you want him to come out and state when and what he does for charities. During a time in which he has "ruined and tarnished" the gnr name. Hey every1 I know you all thing im the dickhead and I know I havnt released anything in years but guess what I just donated some money somehwere. That makes no sense.

I highly doubt the world will look at the ex gunners and or gnr differently because they play on a charity song.

Thats great. While you do that I will continue to build shelter and prepare for an album that once it drops the world will? shake rattle and roll.
And then maybe? Slash and the Boys can play a benefit song for the people who didnt believe in that monstrosity and are now looking real silly.
what your last statement has to do with this whole charity thing is beyond me...but anyways...enjoy
and you still havnt answered my question regarding the whole charity thing. Your saying that someone must announce to the world what they do for charity instead of maybe being low key about it?
You can either make it be known or keep it to yourself. The important thing is actually doing it not how you go about doing it.
