My friend's Epiphone Les Paul Standard felt and sounded like a cheap toy to me compared to my Epiphone Les Paul Custom which was much closer to a genuine Gibson Les Paul Standard which I happen to own.

the only thing that makes them inferior to the gibson one, is that the gibson one is made in the US out of one piece of wood and isnt put together with several different pieces like the epiphones are.

I really hate to say it, but that sooooo isn't the only difference Tongue  I have owned both Smiley  I loved the Epi, but it really isn't in the same league as the Gibson.

if i could afford a new gibson id sell my epi now.they really are different in classes but it doesnt mean theres much difference anymore like there used to be with gison copies

I've got an Agile LP. It plays and sounds much better than an Epiphone imo but not as good as Gibson. But then again not everybody has $800+ to spend lol.

I have an Epiphone Les Paul Standard.
Cost me $600 (CDN). My friends all have 3,000 dollar Gibsons.

I'd take my Epi over anyone of them. There's something about it... It has a nice feeling.

i have a white custom for sale with new sweetened pots.
I cant really compare it to my orville, its a different level/ orvilles are soooo close to gibsons.

i just purchased a Epiphone Les Paul Standard (cherry sunburst) for $500 off of muscians friend. i love it. it looks great, sounds great, and has a really great feel too it. i will eventually change the pickups to Seymour Duncan Alnico Pro II humbuckers, but for now the standard pickups are ok.

Urgent question.......have any of you ever owned or even played an Epiphone ES-175.......I'm wondering if they are somewhat faithful to the Gibson version soundwise.  Any info would be great.

I've been playing a epiphone Les Paul Standard with a pair of Bill Lawrence pickups that I put in for the past two years and I just recently bought the the ESP LTD Les Paul goldtop copy (EC 400 AT) for $600, which is what i paid for the epi. (but i think they've lowered the price to 500 since then) and it blows the epi. out of the fucking water. I strongly suggest that you look at other Les Paul copys if you're planning on buying a Epiphone Les Paul because with all honesty the epi. lp's arent that good. The ESP has a really bright sound and everything is really clean crisp, unlike the epi. which can get a sort of buzzing and twang which is hard to get rid of. Also, unlike a lot of ESP's this isn't an extremely hot guitar, it came with Seymour Duncan JB's (Bridge) and 59's (Neck) pickups wich gives it a good real Les Paul tone. So if you're looking for a new guitar I highly suggest you at least try one of these out and you might be surprised!

I also have the Epi LP Custom White, but I've changed all the cheap hardware to genuine Gibson hardware, and I've fitted it with Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro's. It's sounds so much better now

Your best bet is to go try them out yourself, but if you dont have a good guitar shop in your area where you can do that I guess the epi. standard is good as far as epiphones go, thats the one i liked the best when I was looking at Epiphones. But if you read my post above you'd know that I don't think too highy of Epi. LP's and if you're willing to look at others guitars you should, just don't limit yourself to that one model, but hey! if thats what you really want go for it!

Sorry to rehash my old post....but has anyone played the Epiphone ES-175?  Just wondering if it was anywhere near as great as it's 5x's expensive counterpart.
