- every artist doubts, it's normal.
- However, when you don't succeed to advance in your project it's very likely because you don't believe in it. You're afraid of the failure. and it's a vicious circle.

Thats the point, it's what i think. And what i think has a very remote possibility of being right, in the exact same way as nesquick's use of armchair psychology has a very remote chance.
Stop trying to psychoanalyse axl, you don't know him, and even if you do you're not his shrink.

But isnt that the whole point of a message board? to discuss, analyse? Man I dont want to get in an argument or anything but it just seemed to me that nesquick made a point that he had every right to and you jumped down his throat....thats all.
Personally I dont believe that he is scared of it being a failure, more to do with the ever changing musicians and the fact that they may be recording 3 albums worth in one go.

I think it's not doubt on Axl's part, its more a case of him wanting to be everything to everyone. ?He's trying to cover all bases, writing tracks to please the older GN'R fanbase while at the same time trying to appeal to a newer and younger MTV type audience, he's trying to add elements of Electronica and be seen as being up to date with music production and technology, he's trying to be seen as a serious and credible artist and gain respect by working with "cool" and underground/leftfield people like Buckethead, Chris Pittman. ?
I guess the root of these assumtions is that ultimately he is afraid of failure and wants to comeback with a record that no one can possible criticise. ?Of course thats impossible.

Another way of looking at it is the fact that Axl has sole control of the album. If he doesnt want to work or isnt happy with a song....its his decision. There is no longer Slash et al who would have a say and could push to get the album finished.

I don?t think Axl solely could have control over the release. Probably the Record company ppl have a good deal of it. They might even middle in the music.

I agree that the record company will have a degree of control but in the end it is Axl who decides when they actually work and record. The company can put a degree of pressure on him but as we have seen in the past....he kinda does what he wants.

guess, the company most choose between gnr's productions what they want to sell anyway,
so it's pretty much in the bands hands... kinda
what album does axl belives in, haven't heard it before
guess if he was fully confident and thr record-company feels they can market it-
- we would have it already,
i do belive it's done and soon to emerge

The record company should sue his ass for all the money they gave to him for CD. If he had to pack back all the money they gave him, then he wouldnt have enough money to sit around doing nothing to party on and he would have to go out and Tour without CANCELLING and sell his albums without DELAYS

Does Axl really believe in this album?
Yes.
and so do I.
and so does the band.
and the record company.
None of the above have given up.
And that is because we have every reason to believe in this album...
Axl is an extrodianry talent...and the band is extremelty talented....
and the record company will release it... and we will buy it... and they will tour behind it.
Its only natural.
Sure its taken years... but is it really that hard to understand why its taking so long?
It will be released.
It will be good/great/amazing/wonderful/etc...
I believe.

No one associated with the product could possibly be "Pleased" with what is done or else we would have the product now as there would be no more need to continue making changes or re-recording. THerefore it can be surmised that Axl does not believe in the music he has currently recorded, or he would have handed it over by now.
THat is not to say he does not believe this project can be successful, he just can't believe in all of the completed work he has thus far. If he truly believed in everything he has recorded thus far, we would have it by now. Logically there is just no other way to argue it. The fact he is re-recording or seeking to go to the next level or whatever jargon he uses reinforces the fact that what he has finished is obviously not acceptable to him.

I only find it sad that a man with talent such as Axl demostrated back in the late 80's and early 90's decided to "stay away" for so long. We have probably missed out on a huge amount of great lyrics at this point. What worrys me the most is that maybe the longer he stays away , sheltered by the studio , friends and session musicians the easier it is to stay away. When you spend all day , every day , surroned by yes people who say what you wanna hear why would you take a chance and venture out into the cold uncaring public rat race?
A quote from a guitar mag recently when dicussing Izzy Stradlin said "long before GNR became a running joke with no punchline ..." and sadly , in most circles this is true .. The name GNR has become a joke , or atleast Axl and his Democracy album .. sure , you and I still like axl and we have hope this album will redeem him in the publics eye. But could it ever live up to the hype and/or our expectations? Could any reviewer really review this album without bias now?
Certainly the old GNR material can still sell and that was/is proven by the greatest hits album. But will fans outside the internet GNR community run to buy this new album? The failed tour didnt really instill alot of confidence in me that people were "anxious" .. thinking that axl rose played to half full arenas is shocking to me. Axl Rose , a rock legend.
If the material is trong enough then obviously all the bad press , riots , breakdowns , member changes , delays and what have you still wont be able to stop it cause IMHO the music should prevail over all that crap , the material just has to be stellar.
Theres no escaping the half dozen fucktards who have allready written their slag off review for this album before it ever comes out , your mick walls and what have you. I just hope theres some people in the press with integrity enough to give the album an honest chance and honest listen before putting pen to paper. I hope theres a promoter willing to again take a chance on axl rose and a tour. I hope axl has enough faith in himself , his band , his new material and his fans to comeback and do it one more time. Because IMHO this may be Axl's last "hurrah" ... in a couple years axl will be 50 years old and I dont think he will wanna be doing big tours once he really starts "getting up there" and showing his "age" .... if anything I can see 2 albums including democracy and 3 huge tours .. but timing is key and the 1st album has to come out this year.
It must be a little bit scary for axl rose.
p.s. , I'd like to end my spiel by saying that if I could have my way axl and new gnr would release two HUGE albums and tour the world three times and then all 5 members of the original band , Izzy and Adler included would just kiss and makeup for one last "farewell" tour and maybe a "hits" album with 2 or 3 new songs.

In that case, we'd have tons of CDs already.

Thanks for your reply and opinion. What I stated above was just my opinion , I wasnt trying to force anything on anyone but just try to add to the discussion.
I'm sure theres a million fans out there who would gobble up tickets to a GNR reunion tour.
"Facing the music, who gives a fuck for all the fucking critics?" - actually alot of people do. There will be people outside the gnr internet fanbase who's decision to buy this album or not will hinge on what critics say in their reviews.
"In that case, we'd have tons of CDs already." - I wouldnt complain about having lots of GNR CD's!

There are also a massive number of music fans that never read or listen to what critics say outside the gnr internet fanbase.
The Sales on a worldwide level hinges on the ears of the General public of the times and the music.

Hmmm ... I dunno. GNR fans or music fans in general? because it seems these days "music" fans are just being fed cookie cutter pop band BS and eating it up like a gourmet meal. I dont think todays "music" fan can even think on it's own to be honest. I wish half of this "massive" number of music fans would have turned up for the 2002 democracy tour .. maybe things woulda been different right now.

I've allready said that the strength of the music will make or break the album .. BUT .. a slew of bad reviews/press and a lack of a serious tour promoter , IE:clear channel could put a dent in album sales .. especially if clear channel and axl are still in legal woes and CC decide not to let the new album be played on their radio stations.

Music fans in general. I think it always SEEMs so but plus 80 millions of records can't be only in hands of so-called GNR fans or the concert attendances.
As far as I know, The Masses never SEEM to think on their own throughout the history. Hence comes this title Chinese Democracy, maybe?
