Who?

« Reply #4 on: January 09, 2005, 07:42:22 AM »

1. Bill Paxton - Great comic turn in Weird Science, stole the show in Aliens as the shit-scared Hudson, Showed he could be a leading man in Twister, played a great serious role in A Simple Plan and showed off his acting and directing ablities in the film that really makes you think and is above the standard horror crap these days Frailty.  Also great in Near Dark, Predator 2, Club Dread, Titanic, Tombstone, Navy Seals, True Lies, U-571 etc.  Has only occasionaly slipped up e.g. he plays Jeff Tracy in Thunderbirds, and is Dinky Winks in the Spy Kids films.  Is also the only person to of starred in a Predator film and an Alien film.  He was also the first victim of The Terminator, the punk with the green mohawk ok  Also has a high death rate in films you'll struggle to find an actor who dies in as many films as he does, always does it in style as well e.g. U-571 - Standing on top of a submarine when it gets blown up knocking him flying into the water....but wait he's not dead....they think about saving him but being the brave captain he is he tells them to leave him and save themselves as he sinks to a watery grave Cry
2. Johnny Depp - Extremely versatile, can do serious and funny so well with a mixture of accents, best film has to be Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas the bug-eyed drugged fueled ecstasy of this film is portrayed so well by his character.
3. Christopher Walken - Was one of the best James Bond bad guys with his portrayel of Max Zorrin in A View To A Kill with his uncharacteristic Blonde hair, great bad guy in Nick of Time w/ Johnny Depp as well as his humreous but sadistic short role in True Romance.  Has gone off recently doing some awful films like Joe Dirt but his earlier classics make up for it, also check out Things To Do In Denver When You're Dead, Catch Me If You Can, Sleepy Hollow, Suicide Kings, Pulp Fiction, Wayne's World 2, Batman Returns  ok
4. Daniel Day-Lewis - Has not done many movies throughout his career but that's because he puts his all into what he does spending years sometimes preparing.  The Boxer was a great irish film and afterwards Barry McGuigan actually said he could be a champion boxer he was so good.  Last of The Mohicans i always loved reading the book when i was younger and the film version was just as good, he supposedly lived out in the woods eating berries for months in preparation.  Gangs of New York not the greatest film but he saved it portraying one of my favourite bad guys of all time Bill The Butcher.
Fun Facts:
According to "Gangs of New York" co-star John C. Reilly, Day-Lewis got sick during shooting in Italy, refusing to trade his character's threadbare coat for a warmer coat, because the warmer coat did not exist in the 19th century; doctors finally forced him to take antibiotics.
He listened to Eminem to get into an angry, self-righteous frame of mind as Bill the Butcher while shooting "Gangs of New York."
Turned down the role of Aragon (Strider) in The Lord of The Rings Trilogy
He was Jonathan Demme's first choice for the part of Andrew Beckett in Philadelphia. He turned the part down to work on In the Name of the Father and Tom Hanks was cast in Philadelphia instead. He earned an Oscar nomination for best actor in In the Name of the Father but Hanks won the best actor Oscar for Philadelphia, the part he turned down.

Spacey...   yup  yup yup... all GREAT actors
who you just LOVE to watch on screen
Ill add

Brad Pitt - I think a lot of his acting ablities have been overshadowed by is looks(
Johnny Depp - same comment as above
and oh...  drool
hehe   Grin

Clint Eastwood is the man!

an I think Robert Downey Jr. is a great actor...   too bad about all the time (and opportunities) he lost because of his drug problem
watch him in Chaplin  ok  ok

another great actor in a great role - Mel Gibson in Hamlet

you guys mentioned a lot of my favorite actors

Christopher Walken - anything he is in becomes MORE interesting and BETTER just because he is in it

yes! Catch Me If You Can and I'll add the chick flick "The Stephford Wives"   --- he is frickin' funny!

Edward Norton - Fight Club! and Primal Fear!  ok
which reminds me...

Richard Gere...   really enjoyable to watch...
from his first screen appearance in Looking for Mr. Goodbar
American Gigolo... Officer and a Gentleman..  Breathless <----- loved these
And in Internal Affairs...   the guy is just wicked and *wooooo*
also really enjoyed Sommersby, Mr. Jones, and Intersection
of course there is Pretty Woman
and Runaway Bride which I didn't enoy as much as I did (and was surprised to) enjoy Chicago

ok.. enough

again... new in the OT section so i'll have to restrain myself  Grin

Matt Damon

yes he's actually a good actor... unlike Ben Affleck!

and oh... i was watching "blown away" on cable the other night and I gotta say I really like Tommy Lee Jones playing the role of 'the bad guy'.... reminded me of his role as 2Face in the batman movie...

which reminded me of Jim Carey playing the Riddler.....
another actor (actor/comedian) whose abilities i think shine in darker more serious roles

has Tom Hanks been mentioned?

he's great Smiley
case in point: "Terminal"   ok
