Hello Time bomb

« on: December 31, 2004, 02:47:10 AM »

The Station: 97.7 HTZ-FM out of St. Catherines, ON
The Time: 12/30/04 around 2pm EST

The news/rumor:

The guy on the radio said that allegedly Axl heard Contraband and was pissed that the album could actually be halfway decent so he is going to go back into the studio to lay down tracks. Then the DJ went on to say, "yeah, like we haven't heard that at all over the past 12 years." Then he said that he hopes it happens and that 2005 looks to be year of the comeback with hopefully GnR, Motley Crue, Judas Priest and Pink Floyd (with Roger Waters but even the DJ was extremely skeptical of this one).

Its really nothing new but it was a mention and the DJ never said where he got his info from. Only that Axl heard Contraband and was pissed about it because it was actually decent and it supposedly motivated him to make his own songs better. I'm sure the DJ didn't just make it up but who knows how reliable his source is or whether its just word of mouth.

I wouldn't worry to much about this.? If he were going to listen to Contraband I don't think it would've taken him this long to do it.

who cares what mikkamakka thinks, just look at his sig, his perception of Guns N' Roses is as biased as the history course (should I say brainwashed 101 course) he teaches in Hungary. Don't you have an intelligent socialist student to fail ?

Usurper and Woody.  Just because Mikkamakka liked Contraband doesn't mean the guy is biased.  He has the right to his opinion.  Just because someone doesn't like or agree with everything Axl says or do doesn't mean they are biased.  I am not a big fan of VR myself but have to agree with Mikka that the new songs I heard from ol' Axl are not the best ones GnR ever did.  Personally I like Madagascar but everyone I know just can't seem to get to like it.  And some of them are big GnR fans.  Some people should just learn to respect other people's opinions.  I don't agree wit everything that comes from Axl but at the same time I don't blame him for everthing bad that happened in GnR.  And if someone happens to have a different opinion than me about things in GnR or Axl I just respect their opinions.

Axl doesnt give a fuck about contraband.  If anything he doesnt want the press about the 2 albums being out at the same time.

Yup. Contraband was so crappy that it came out @ #1 and has yielded 2 #1 singles and major press.  Roll Eyes

Guys , everyone is entitled to an opinion , you think VR/Contraband sucks .. thats fine .. but there are millions of fans who dont think they suck .. I like both factions , VR and Axl's GNR and I like some of the songs from both camps. Is there some rule saying that if you are a slash fan you must hate axl or if you are an axl fan you must hate slash?

sadness.

I couldn't have said it better Saul.  Although I still maintain that I am not a fan of VR because well it just din't do it for me.  But I still like a couple of songs from them.

I've never seen VR in the MTV Top 20, and CERTAINELY NOT at #1. I've never heard or seen any VR singles on french radiostations or on french TV. If I were not on this board, I wouldn't know VR even exists. 99% here don't know who "Velvet Revolver" are.

#1 singles on "modern Rock" VH1 charts are insignifiant. It doesn't mean anything.
The real Chart is the MTV Top 20, it shows the best selling singles and albums in the world.

I like VR but I wouldn't consider this band as "popular" or "very successfull". They have success, ok, but that's not a Rock phenomenon ala GN'R 87-93. If it was the case, Contraband would have sold 10 million copies +, or 15 million copies+  but they are far, very far from that.

yea you're not familiar with that rule? jeez. it states: you must pick one of the two (Slash or axl) to like and then you cannot acknowledge anything positive from the other. similarly, you must try to nitpick at everything the other one does and ignore similar transgressions of your choice. Also, the other person is 100% responsible for breaking up guns n roses, and you must admit that he had no part in the success of the original lineup (for those albums must be viewed as the work of individuals, not of a band as a whole). addendum: dizzy, steven, matt, duff, and izzy fans must be treated as crazy and insignificant in the grand scheme of things. they are clearly wrong in who they choose to like, and everyone can agree on this.

on a side note, i completely agree with you. back on topic: thanks for posting the rumor. who knows- it might be true, it might not. interesting to read at least. happy new year everyone!

The #1 singles were on the Billboard mainstream/modern rock charts. Rock songs don't make the charts for the most part on MTV or the main billboard charts as they are dominated by rap and R&b. A #1 single on the rock charts is about the best a rock band not named Lincoln Park can hope for right now.

because Rock music isn't ROCK music anymore. That's a long story but, if Rock music isn't the #1 music in the world it's because most of Rock bands over these last 10 years haven't been that great. In the early 90's, Rock Music dominated the world, one week it was GN'R, the other week it was U2, the other one it was Nirvana, the other one it was REM etc...I mean most of 90's Rock classic albums were released between 1991 and 1993: the illusions, archtung baby, nevermind, black album, ten, etc... there was quality.
