I think Scott is a good singer but not great or amazing.? There's nothing special about his voice.
He doesn't have one of those voices that are not only good but also instantly recognizable when you hear it - like Bono or Springsteen or you-know-who (I'm not trying to start a "versus" thing here.? I'm just making a point.)

Good...Yes.? Great or Amazing...No.

what's your definition of good? because there are a zillion good frontman out there trying to make it. As far as I'm concerned Scott is great even if he's not in the top 20

I think that she means Good = he gets the job done, but not anything special. Just like she said.

I agree with Gypsy, Weiland has never been my favorite. When I go see VR, I'd rather watch Duff and Slash then Scott dancing around with his megaphone.

I agree with the original post. I think Weiland is a great singer and frontman, one of the best in the last 20 years. He has a great range--he can sing in a low baritone (Sex Type Thing, Set Me Free) and he can sing in a high-pitched voice as well (Big Bang Baby, Sour Girl). He is also a great frontman, and a very creative guy. "12 Bar Blues" is one of my favorite albums from the 1990s. He's second only to Axl Rose, as the best singer/songwriter/frontman of the last 20 years or so. And I'm not just saying this because of VR, as I have been an STP for several years.

I think Scott is an awesome singer. He has a knack for singing ballads and acoustic type songs (Interstate Love Song, anybody?), and he can rock out when he wants to as well (Slither, Sex Type Thing, Suckertrain or Crackerman, anyone?). Shedloads of stage presence, and the Luftwaffe hat makes him look badass.

I downloaded the Cologne E-Werk show a few weeks ago, and he sounds great on that. "Hello my German brethren! We are Velvet Revolver and we play rock and fuckin' roll!" - It's great to have a proper rock n roll band when every other supposed 'rock' band is three or four scrawny teenagers shouting about how they're mad at their dad.

as for the thread. I think Scott is a very good singer. Hes on that second tier. Excellent pipes descent stage presence.

Scott is simply put, the full package. He can sing, he has charisma, he has stage presence up there with the best of them in my opinion (and no one can deny this i saw Velvet Revolver rock out Roseland Ballroom on May 26th and boy was he entertaining if you have seen him live then u understand) and he is a good songwriter. I am just getting into Stone Temple Pilots and i appreciate him even more as a musician now. by the way, his cover of the Depeche Mode song "But Not Tonight" is fantastic.

In my opinion, I wouldn't categorize him as an "amazing" singer. ?He is a good singer. ?But, certainly not exceptional by any means. ?

To me Scott Weiland doesn't exactly do anything amazing vocally, though the style he can sing he sings well, but his attitude and stage presence more than make up for his short vocal range.

Seeing Scott live (in the various bootlegs I've seen) is to me like seeing AFD era Axl up on stage - a skinny white dude who is pissed at the world and the only way he knows to vent is through his music - very cool! ok

Ive always thought Scott is a truly great singer since I got into STP way back when Core came out. He does have an excellent vocal range, however I dont see him being remembered or ranked among the all time greats with Freddie or my boy Axl. Ive seen STP live front row and he does also have terrific stage presence but as someone else already said, I think he is more of a low ballad singer then an all out R&R frontman IMO.

I personaly think his voice can be distinctive, at certian times. If you listen to STP's version of "Revolution", "Big Bang Baby" and VR's "Surrender" you know it's Scott. He sings with that raspy stlye, and to me it's can't be mistaken for anybody else.

As for stage presence will anybody that has seen him, weither it's the STP era or VR ,  knows that Scott can work the stage like very few frontmen do. Honestly I think he's toned it down a bit actually,  compared to the STP days anyways.

Great songwriter. Good singer. Stage presence is still great though.

I downloaded a stp boot from 93, and Scott would say some crazy stuff between songs. He would even say this next somg is some weird band from someone else, then play Creep. Like he does before VR songs.

Before Dead and Bloated he says "This song is about beastiality. this song is about a man and his dog. About a man fucking his dog in the ass" Its funny cuz the audience gasps.
