I was gonna wait for Dave to post this, but Ill just go ahead now.? Thanks to Joshi and HermesPanduck at the VR board...

"Just got my Jan issue of Total Guitar, and they have to the top 50 best guitar albums of 2004. Contraband won, followed by American Idiot, Start Somthing by Lostprophets and Slipknots new album. Pretty damn cool, check it out"

---------------

"Just to let you know, VR were named the best band of the year and they got best album for Contraband [by Classic Rock].

This, coming from the magazine that Scott was "angry" about shall we say, is quite impressive. Now we know that they dont hate Scott.

If anyone's interested, its the issue with James Hetfield on the front cover. It's also got an article in it about Axl Rose being on GTA San Andreas."

This magazine appears right on the money, because THIS IS the best rock album of the year.

I suggest you all stop with the Dave bashing. It's actually against the rules here to insult other board members.

You make it seem like he's the only one posting negative articles. I've posted some too and guess what I got accused of? Posting only negative articles!  hihi

Oh, when GN'R starts touring/releases their album, I expect that none of you will ever post anything negative about GN'R or Axl in the GN'R section. Because I know you would never do such a thing.... Right?

That's great to hear! I agree with Booker about Silvertide. That is an equally excellent album. I'd like to see these two bands tour together again.

Everyone can post negative articles. The problem with that guy is that he posts ONLY negative articles. Okay, he hates Slash & Co., let's do it, but he made himself a clown when posted a 7-months old article that had been discussed on the board. But you are right, I was stupid when I made some shots on him in my post.

Silvertide hasn't left my CD player since I got it, a damn good rock record.

On topic, nice to see Scott and the boys getting some critical love..

I find it very strange. When Contaband Came out Classic Rock had the balls to give it 3/5. I respected it for that.

Now Classic Rock Votes An 3/5 Album the Best of 2004.

2004 must have been really bad in Rock Music when a 3/5 star rock album is considered the Best.

I assume a writer gave it 3/5.  Perhaps the year-end selection requires more than one writer?

It was 9th in the metal/hard rock list of 2004 in that Swedish paper. That list was by the same guy who gave the album 4/5 in June.

I don't undestand. Classic Rock Is a UK Magazine not a swedish newspaper. Huh

I am pretty sure that Classic Rock the UK Magazine voted contraband 3/5 and not 4/5.

Yeah, my "point" is that just because it got a bad/good review, it doesn't necessarily mean it's gonna be at the bottom/top in the year end lists.

In the Classic Rock list, it's possible they had many people voting. In the Aftonbladet list, it was just one guy's opinion. He really liked the album in June, but in December it wasn't the #1 album of 2004.....

Don't think so i had a quick read through it today when i was out and it said it was decided by the magazine's critics, it was n't a reader vote, but if they have 10 critics working for them maybe overall they came to a different decision still seems odd though, one of my favourite albums [which i will not mention since some people think i am too obsessed with this band] did not even make the top 50 although Classic Rock gave it 4/5 and raved about it...very odd.? Good news is Brides of Destruction album was No.4, Tommy Stinson's was 19th [they said Axl may struggle to better it], Tesla's was 47th & Gluecifer & SOiL were in there aswell.

Jarmo didnt say anything about readers...10 critics would constitute "people," and if one thought VRs album was okay, and 8 thought it was great, the decision isnt all that odd.

American Idiot was the best rock album I've heard this year. I've see Classic Rock's Top 50 List and Alter Bridge is No. 2.  nervous

Despite these very public rock albums, it was still a very lean year for rock music.

Maybe Magazines should start having all it's critics rate the albums when released and give each an overall score at the time so you have a more objective and representative result.  Now to a casual GN'R fan Velvet Revolver's 3/5 may not of made them rush out to the shop. Whereas many months later seeing it got album of the year some people would pick it up.  Now they would of probably got it when it came out if the review had been done by more people and say been more representative.
