Why do psychopaths target musicians?
Makes no sense.

I'll post part of it.
Guitarist Among Five Killed in Ohio Shooting
Gunman Shot Dead by Police Officer
By JAY COHEN, AP
COLUMBUS, Ohio (Dec. 9) - A man charged onstage at a packed heavy metal show and opened fire, killing at least four people including guitarist Darrel Abbott before an arriving officer shot him to death, authorities said.
Columbus police department spokeswoman Sherry Mercurio identified three of the victims of Wednesday's shooting as Abbott, guitarist with the heavy metal rock band Damageplan, and two other men, Nathan Bray and Erin Halk.
Damageplan had just begun their first song at the Alrosa Villa when the man opened fire, first targeting Abbott, shooting him multiple times at point-blank range, a witness said.

I used to love Pantera back in the day: Cowboys..., Vulgar Display... and Far Beyond... were great albums, real metal classics...
This is insane and a sad day for music in general
Rest in Peace Darrell...

Dimebag was an awesome guitarist man!! This really fucking shitty news to wake up to. I saw Pantera 2 times (Detroit for the 101 proof tour, and in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada for the Reinventing the Steel tour) I have never seen a better guitarist.
I mourn his death.
RIP Dime

I wonder if we'll ever find the reason behind all this, since the killer was shot as well.
I guess we won't.

I just read a few minutes ago that it was a joke, I'll try to find the original source.
Edit: I found this on a Dutch website, don't know if it's true.
Ok, ok, the joke went a little too far. We did all this just to see who our true fans were, and I think we can now say we have some pretty loyal fans, and some pretty scummy people on this earth. Dime Bag isn't dead, no-one got hurt. It was a publicity stunt (which worked fairly well I must add) Please no harsh feelings against the band, or against the fans. Dime bag is going to be on MTV's breaking news at 7:00 this morning letting everyone in on the incident. Please don't panic, but please, keep spreading the rumors and gossip, we need this thing to get so completely huge that everyone out there will hear the name "Damage Plan"

Hmmm i dont think so
COLUMBUS, Ohio Dec 9, 2004 ? A gunman charged onstage at a packed nightclub and opened fire on the band and crowd, killing top heavy metal guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott and three other people before a police officer shot him to death, authorities and witnesses said.
Police spokeswoman Sherry Mercurio identified three of the victims of Wednesday's shooting as Abbott, who played for the Texas-based band Damageplan, and two other men, Nathan Bray, 23; and Erin Halk, 29.
She identified the gunman as Nathan Gale, 25, of Marysville, 25 miles northwest of Columbus. She said there was no information on a motive or any connection to the band.
Damageplan had just begun its first song at Alrosa Villa club when the man shot Abbott five or six times at point-blank range, a witness said.
I see Damage Plan items on Ebay have Rocketed with a signed drum head getting 14 Bids in a few hours.

No, I don't think it was a joke. AP would not have picked it up if it was a joke. Plus they have some pics on their wire. (not pics of the night but pics of the cops, some people leaving flowers near the club, etc.)

I've never really listened to Pantera, but from what I understand they have a loyal fan base and were a very good metal band. And regardless of their music, this is a very sad day not only for the people killed/injured, but for rock n' roll. Keep in mind three weeks ago there was the brawl with the fans at the Pistons/Pacers game, and now this? It seems that fans, whether they are at sporting events or rock shows, are getting out of control. I know these are only two incidents, but I think there should be more security checks before you get into a sporting event or a concert. Regardless, this is terrible. I guess it's good that the killer was shot himself, but he still apparently achieved his goal. R.I.P. Dimebag and the others that were killed.

"YOU KILLED PANTERA ! YOU?RE RUINED MY LIFE! WHAT ABOUT PHIL ( ANSELMO )? HE NEED MONEY TO BUY HEROIN!"------Yes, sounds familiar. Bloody hell.
Whenever I see rabid reunionistic comments, I worry about the same thing, Actually.
