Halford is the greatest singer ever. Bach would be a close second. Smiley

Steven Tyler is still God. Chris Cornell has always had an amazing voice even tho I can't seem to get into Audioslave. Danzig while he was with the misfits had the whole elvis-morrison vibe but somehow made it his own while singing to stuff everyone can relate to...astrozombies, turning into a martian, eating brains etc. Freddie Mercury was a helluva fucking singer.

After much consideration, I'm gonna have to go with Gene Ween.  So much fuckin variety with this guy and his voice is perfect live.  Also he can sound like Lemmy or Robert Plant if he wants to.

Honorable mentions- Thom Yorke, Geddy Lee, Lou Reed, Roger Daltrey, Jack Black Grin

Bruce Dickenson - how hasn't he been mentioned yet?
Steven Tyler - listen to Mama Kin, hge's especially brilliant on that
Am I allowed Scott Weiland? STP and VR eras, his voice is amazing
John Entwistle - so gritty, so gloriously gritty
Alice Cooper - he has such a cool voice, and besides, he's just the man

Who?

« Reply #29 on: December 20, 2004, 12:48:35 PM »

Dave Wyndorf
Sebastian Bach
Tom Petty

Dave is a lyrical genius and great vocalist, wonderful at getting the crowd going to.  Bach has such a long range and probably the best actual voice.  Tom Petty is so smooth, great lyrics and so chilled out.

Alot of people keep saying Mike Patton.  Is it because you like him as a lyricist or does he actually have a good technical voice? People keep saying he has amazing range, which songs showcase that?

i certainly don't think that any of these are the best, just personal favourites:

Ed Vedder
Joe Strummer
Avril Lavigne <-- i know the topic is suppose to be rock singers but i thought i'd mention her anyway
Bob Geldof
Whitfield Crane (Ugly Kid Joe)
Billie Joe Armstrong

only ones i think of off the top of my head

The greatest rock SINGER ever IS Freddie Mercury. Listen to his voice. he has more range than anyone else. Want proof, listen to 'Somebody To Love', 'In My Defence' and especially 'The Show Must Go On' (the last one was sung as he was on his last legs and is his best ever vocal performance). He is definatly the greatest. And I'm not only saying this because I'm a Queen fan, he really was the best. Anyone who hasn't written him needs to listen to him, you don't need to be a fan to realise what a brilliant singer he was.

And the best frontmen are Robert Plant and Freddie Mercury. Really, Freddie was the greatest performer, and Robert is just so interesting to watch. Almost God like.

((Bob Geldof is not a good singer)).

i dont listen to much other rock music besides gn'r, but you gotta give props to steven tyler who's voice is pretty damn equal to what it was in the 70s uhhhh...

cant forget bach or bono, but its really tough to say, because at least in terms of the rock world, no one can even really touch axl.
