VELVET REVOLVER bassist Duff McKagan is among the many NIRVANA fans excited about today's release of the box set "With The Lights Out". McKagan is a Seattle native who started his music career in that city and he witnessed NIRVANA's early days, and he said the box set will allow fans a deeper insight into the group. "There's gonna be, I know there's some real, real deep tracks in there that have never seen the light of day except to a very few people, rehearsal stuff and... I'm from Seattle, so I know some of the people that have played on some of the stuff that's coming out on it, on the box set," he told Launch Radio Networks.

"With The Lights Out" features 80 tracks on its three CDs and one DVD, 68 of which are previously unreleased. Thurston Moore of SONIC YOUTH wrote liner notes for the set.

Duff and Kurt Cobain found themselves on the same plane flight back to Seatte in 1994 a few days before Kurt died.  Duff said that they got along well and realised that they actually had mutual friends back in Seattle.

True, but when Nirvana and PJ made it big, Duff said those bands have been copying what other Seattle bands had been doing 10 years earlier. It sounded like a negative comment to me then, and still does. Then, the fact that he tried to beat Chris at the VMA's in 92 also enphasizes this rivalry between both bands.

Now I find Duff's reaction to Nirvana's recent release pretty fake. Either he made an ass of himself 10 years ago or he is making an ass of himself now.

No wonder coming from Duff. He's been making an ass of himself recently anyway...

I agree 100%.

He made some dumbass comment early on in the promotion of Contraband about GNR being influential within the Seattle scene and I about pissed myself laughing.

Nope, all the hate was from Kurt Cobain. There is an interview from 1992 in which Axl states he had the "Nevermind" tape weeks, or months before it's release and it became one of his favorite albums. He wanted to tour with Nirvana. But Kurt "my shit doesn't stink" Cobain was all self-righteous and wouldn't stoop to touring with GN'R.
