I'm a llama!

« on: November 23, 2004, 09:11:17 AM »

Well, the point of my topic isn't fight between Nirvana and Gnr(i like both band, gnr more ofcourse),the point is something which i saw on internet,tv,radio and while i was talking with people.
In late 90's everyone's listened nirvana, especialy teens, and noone cared for gnr.
But now,something change,I can see(in Belgrade,capital of serbia,2 milion's town),many kids are dresse in gnr shirts!!!
I can see the Greatest hits are selling very well, and we have many gnr shows(on tv or radio).
I think gnr comeback on mainstream and new scene

My sister(24) is the youngest profesor on Belgrade music academy(on piano),and in her teen days she was fan of grunch and Nirvana, and hated GNR.I didn't see her for 3 years, but i talked with her before couple days(and we were talking about music),and she said that now she was little blame about her listening of Nirvana, and said that Nirvana were something big in her life, but she said that Gnr were real big band and band wwhich wrote music for all time. Now she is impresed by "November Rain" and Estranged, and said that gnr are very popular ito people whose work with music profesional.

Ok this is just one opinion, but i think she is right

GNR for fuckin ever

I think a lot of teens loved "Grunch".  Grin

I'm kidding. But of course a band isn't going to be popular with younger kids if they aren't releasing any new music. Kids gravitate to whatever is popular or on the radio.  Everything goes in cycles, and if GnR is becoming popular with the teens, it will more than likely pass unless they release something significant soon.

I think Geffen released the "Greatest Hits" at the right time.

It wasn't that long ago that GN'R was the most uncool band you could like. Now it's trendy.....

GNR is definitly trendy again. It won't be long before we have young bands making music like GNR did and living the life of a rockstar.

Hell yeah!

Nice post rale!

I think GN'R took such a big hit back in the mid/late 90's because of (A) how much success they had and the fact that it's only natural that there will be a backlash at some point; and (B) well let's just say the boys didn't exactly endear themselves to fans and other bands with some of their antics when they were on top.

BUT at the end of the day... their music is truly timeless. AFD's reputation is secure for all-time- and I would not be surprised at all if UYI continues its gradual rise up those annual "100 Best Rock Albums" lists. ok

Now if Axl could just give us CD... drool

Great thread.  I have been looking back at some Rolling Stones and the like from the late 90's, early 00's, and it is just a Cobain creamfest.  That period for lack of a better word, sucked.

HAHA... yeah... I mean Cobain played his part and Nevermind is a landmark album, but most critics seem to give Cobain credit not only for the 2-3 great albums he did produce- but the 20 great albums that he never got to produce because he blew his brains out. They just assume that he would have cranked out one great landmark album after another. I don't think you can make that assumption- if anything, most evidence seems to indicate that Cobain felt "spent" as an artist and was laboring heavily under the pressures of rabid fans and media expectations. His next five albums could have been steaming piles of dog crap for all we know...

Anyway, the same hero-worship would have happened to Axl had he done himself in in '91.

Thank God he didn't. beer

Yes,but  in last ten years we have many bands whose were inspirated by Guns n roses, but mtv,vh1 and other tv or radio stations didn't put them, because Alt rock was in...
Also How can someone compare Axl's vocal and Cobain vocal,OR Slash like guitarists and Cobain.

GNR were soo huge in 1991-1993 and everyone (excepted gnr fans) hated Axl.Slash and co and wanted to destroyes the band!!
Ok band was destroyed, but Gnr music will excist forever

we have apetite for destruction as legendary album, and why will axl do a copy of that?
use your illusion were best too, with lot of art in them ,but...
chinese democracy (i 'm hope) will be something realy huge

I still see tons of kids with nirvana shirts on, wether it be the tribute as a kid with his life numbers on it or patches.. Ever since I was in HS the tide changed, I was a freshman in 1990 and it was gnr, by the time I got out in 94 I was just about teh only one with a gnr shirt on..

If anyone went to school in that time you would be amazed how grunge knocked out rock in tshirts..

I agree, it does seem to be regional.   Certain cities and different countries have much more affinity to GNR than others.  But overall, GNR is considered cooler now.  And as Booker said, VR did play a role in that.  When I went to Tower Records to pick up Contraband, it was the first time I saw other people in the store wearing AFD/GNR t-shirts in a loooooong time.

It does seem like GNR is making a comeback, but Nirvana seems to be going strong, too. The world is big enough for both of them.

Yeah, I don't know where this "Nirvana went" stuff is coming from.  Their greatest hits "Nirvana" did really well, as did the single "You Got No Right".... plus they're releasing their Box set?...

A lot of stars (music, movies) wear GN'R shirts nowadays.  I've seen Justin Timberlake, Nicole Ritchie, Macauley Caulkin and some asshole from a crappy emo band all wearing GN'R shirts in the last couple weeks.  It's definetely a trend to like a "retro" band like GN'R nowadays.

Here in Holland it is definetly hip and trendy to wear a GNR t-shirt or sweater. All the trendy people in the clubs are wearing them. Seems pretty stupid to me as they are on a party that only plays that damn "house-techno-club-trance" crap.... so yeah it's trendy again....
