I've hear alot about them but being the lazy bum that I am, I don't wanna spend money on the cd without some input.  So, for those of you who love them/ hate them, lets hear some recommendations, suggestions, comments and all that good stuff.

Also, if I were to get 1 or 2 songs, which ones are the best to get for a beginner/newbie?

Well, apparently, "Humans Being" is a classic.  Of course, Guns covered it on The Spaghetti Incident?

I got their debut CD and Too Much Too Soon.......

If you know anything about the Dolls, you'll they can't play and they can't sing.....So you'd think they suck, but they were so fucking cool you had to like them. Aerosmith liked them because they were twice as fucked up as the boys in Aerosmith could ever think of being........

I'd pick some up, just don't except some life-alterting, amazing album......

www.new-york-dolls.com

Hey Guys!

We love GN'R, especially HereTodayGoneToHell.com - we heard Axls praise for the site on tour in 2002 - think it was a belgium gig?

Anyway, we're just going round some sites and message boards letting people know that the Official New York Dolls site is up and running now. We thought some of you might be interested - please spread the news to other fans if you wish.

Its not fully finished yet but its getting there, the main thing we are having trouble with is setting up the Php-Forum. We do have videos and mp3s for download aswell as some news updates.

Feel free to check it out and send your feedback - the site will be updated and improved shortly.

Regards,

Not sure if I am allowed to post this link (delete if you want) but may aswell let people know I also have a website for the New York Dolls//  www.new-york-dolls.com

If you like GNR you should check them. They heavily influenced GNR. 'Human Being' from Spaghetti Incident is their song, and their guitarist Johnny Thunders wrote the song "You Cant Put Your Arms Around A Memory" which is also on Spaghetti. Duff McKagan dedicated 'So Fine' to Johnny on the Illusion albums.

I actually just got into the Dolls!  I always heard about how they were really influential blah blah blah, but the only thing I had heard from them was the original "Human Being", and I preferred the GN'R version.  But then a month ago I downloaded "Personality Crisis" and I loved it!  The guys are great as a punkified Rolling Stones, and I dig the glam image a lot too.

My favourite New York Dolls tunes that I've heard are "Pills" and "Looking For A Kiss", the latter partly because it has such a cool intro: "When I say I'm in love you best believe I'm in love L-U-V."  It's trashy glam rock and I love it.

yeah I love the Dolls, got into them like a year ago, I only have one album though, gotta get the other one too.
punkified Rolling Stones is a good description of them, good use of words Mattman ok
those guys had a huge influence on the punk movement.
Johnny Ramone wanted to start a band after seeing them.
Steve Jones learned how to play guitar while playing along to their first album peace

of course there is no us and them, but them they do not think the same

A great album to pick up is 'Rock N Roll' by the way. Most HMV's stock it even though it isnt official.

The Dolls officially only lasted four years and released 2 official albums. If you look at the discography on my site though their are about 50+ albums detailed  Grin Sylvain said they are only remembered today because of bootlegs. Practically every song they ever recorded is now available in one form or another  ok

well the NY dolls have influenced the punk movement...as well as the 80s heavy metal scene.  Any suggestions as to which songs are critical?
thanks!

I'm not sure if it's a good idea to do a New York Dolls' record in 2006... Johansen and Sylvain are the only survivors of the infamous '72-'75 lineup. Johnny Thunders died in 1991, drummer Jerry Nolan in 1992, and in 2004, bassist Arthur Kane died of leukemia...

I still haven't listened to the new record, but a friend told me it's one of the best records he listened for awhile, way better than the Stones.

I got it today and I totally agree with your friend and yes better than the last Stones effort. One of the best Rock records I've heard in years. Classic Dolls! Classic Rock N' Roll! Dont think about it, just get it.

I just got finished watching the documentary "New Yok Doll" about Auther Kane and the reunion in London in 2004. I have listened to The Dolls for years. I love and know the music well. I didn't know, however, that Killer died shortly after that gig. The ending struck me pretty hard.. I was litterally gobsmacked.

The documentary isn't bad (if you can get past the bullshit the Mormons are saying) and looks at Kanes life during and after The Dolls in a (maybe too) soft light.

But yeah.. suprised I didn't know he was dead (or even hear about it until now).
