"... 1997, the ROLLING STONES wanted GUNS N' ROSES to open a date or two for their Bridges to Babylon tour. The Stones were quite specific about which GNR lineup they wanted: Rose, Slash, Gilby Clarke, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum."

Interesting! Anybody remember the rumours at the time?

I remember that. But I don't remember when I heard it. Might have been years afterwards.

Nice of The Stones to ask for people in the band who had been out of the band for three years (Gilby).

Heh, I'm surprised they didn't ask for Metallica with James, Lars, Kirk and Cliff Burton.

I think they knew that Izzy and Steven had left/been fired, so they invited the last GN'R they knew. But only 1 (or maybe 3, depending on when they made they call) of the listed members were playing in GN'R that time. What a surpsise, that they forgot about Dizzy and Teddy Andreadis...

Well true, well at least for steven.. They can keep dizzy n teddy zig zag home, band is better, or was better without them IMO.. I always liked just the essentials in rock, guitars ,drums, n vocals..

Suprised they didn't invite the horn section(976-horn), and the two chicks roberta and tracy hihi

There's more chance of them getting back together than the old GnR lineup Wink

I had never heard that. Might as well ask for the original line up since they had already toured with them.

Axl would have never agreed on opening for anybody,  they were the biggest band in the world 4 years before that rumour, so I don't think they should open a show, even if it's the stones. Guns N roses should never ever open again.

Metalica with Cliff would have been quite the show with the rolling stones.

the doors with the guy from the cult would be the way to go when the new guns tour.

Who cares who opens or who closes?     If you wanted to leave after GnR and miss the stones... then you could do that.    If AC/DC can open for the Stones then anyone can.

Agreed, the band was way better without the big "entourage" type of thing,  I remember back when they released a statement about Dizzy in the band, me and my friends were so pissed they got a keyboard player, never dreamt he would one day be the sole "original" member besides Axl.
