epiphone LP or fender telecaster?
«
on:
November 07, 2004, 02:32:40 AM »
im kinda confused.. i have an Epiphone Les Paul STD, and few days ago i tested a Squier Telecaster.. which is so much confortuble than the les paul i got..
thing is.. i LOVE Les Paul's, and Epiphone is the best i can get, there's no need to get a Gibson and i dont know if i'll get one if i have the money..
anyway, the last frets are very unconfortable so.. i dont know what to do... frets 21 and 22.. are hard to play, is too width in that part...
telecaster is VERY confortable, i dont like very much the "way" of the mics and stuff.. but sound good too and Fender bits Epiphone.. , prize is kinda the same..
any suggest??

well the squier probably doesn't even have a 22nd fret. But the reason it's easier to play higher up, is beacause the frets are further apart.
But i'm not exactly sure what you're asking...so i can't really suggest anything.

I think i understand what your saying, the higher frets are easier to get to on the tele cos of the body shape etc. its all to do with personal preference and what ur most comfortable with, but u cud also try gettin to grips with the higher frets on ur LP, u may get used to it eventually?

Hello motherfucker !
When you think about getting a new guitar, you have to be really convinced about how do you want to sound. for example, if I want speed I'd pick an Ibanez or bc rich, If I'm looking for damn powerfull mics for playing hard rock riffs, I'd pick a vintage gibson...
Obviously, If you think that the UGLY, REPAIRED, AND SHITTY squier (that we both played the other day..) is comfortable, you really should go to a decent music store and try lots and LOTS of fender telecasters... I personally don't like your epiphone... sounds ugly for me but maybe it's just me...
And remember that a fender telecaster can give you the perfect gnr sound... with a single coil for clean arpegios and a doble mic for electric riffs...

I have a fender telecaster and i like it alot its very good for rhhythm. And yes the higher frets are easier to play then th eepiphone les pauls but its all sound and comfort/preference but personally i wish i had humbuckers in my telecaster, i love the shape and feel but sometimes the pickups dont do wat i want but that can be fixed.

I prefer using Telecasters for Rythm but Epiphone Les Paul is way better for lead playing.
So it depends on which one u play

In the end it's just what your used too as others already mentioned. I started with an ibanez guitar. It's definetely easyer to reach the high frets on those guitars. But I didn't really had the idea I had an "guitar". More like a toy...
The Les Paul, epiphone I have is much heaver, better sound (personal preferation) and I'm used to play on it now. I don't really agree that a fender telecaster is perfect for the Guns N' Roses sound. For the rythmn perhaps but definetely not for the lead. But who cares. As long as your having fun!

When you first start playing guitar its hard to tell which one is right for you, simply because you don?t have any experience. I think all beginners should look for a guitar that their guitar hero uses, or something that looks cool. It will inspire you to play more. When you start to become a decent player, have a good feel, and know what you like to play, it's easier to find a good sounding guitar that you find comfortable to play.
So nice_boy84, you think the "last frets are very uncomfortable" on your Les Paul but on the telecaster it is more comfortable. You have two choices. Buy the telecaster, or keep the Les Paul. It's your choice and only you can decide.
My suggestion: Try to find new ways to play the lower frets on your LP. But really, how often do you use frets 19 and below? And if this doesn?t work out go for the telecaster.
That is all.

If you say that Epiphone is better than Ibanez, It's because your ibanez was a gio or other cheap model...
And if you say that fender telecaster isn't compatible with gnr sound, you really should get a bootleg and look at izzy's telecaster...

About telecasters... there's some models with 1 single coil and 1 humbucker

Well, I have occasionally played a telecaster too, but I meant the playability of the ibanez, which is similar to the telecaster.
btw, I said
"I don't really agree that a fender telecaster is perfect for the Guns N' Roses sound. For the rythmn perhaps but definetely not for the lead."
Notice the rythm comment, I know Izzy played on telecasters. Notice the "lead" comment too.?

The early 90's MIJ Fender reissue series are probably the best guitar Fender ever made. If you can pick up one of them second hand (it would probably be cheaper than a new US standard...) then you'd be getting a pretty decent guitar.

i'd say get the telecaster.
you can get most sounds you want from a telecaster.
i only own les pauls and thats probably all i'll ever own ( im trying to get a rack of les pauls)
but i am planning on buying one type of other guitar and thats a telecaster.
