The Healing Power of Axl's Voice

Like many here I just love AXL'S  voice, especially in my all time favorite song NOVEMBER RAIN.   When I heard Axl's voice on the GTA_San Andreas game i found myself wishing that I knew somone to whom I could give the game. Last year one of my best friends suffered a terrible loss when her 15 year old nephew was gunned down by gangbangers who were attempting to rob him. He was shot in the head 2 weeks before Christmas on his birthday. His mother was gracious enough to donate all of his organs and over 5 people received the gift of life last holiday season.. On Halloween I told my friend to bring her family to my neighborhood in Oak Park so that they could have a safe place to go trick or treating. I was able to meet the murdered boy's brother and my heart just went out to him.  Yesterday was November 1st and I was happy that it was raining since I love NOVEMBER RAIN so much. It is also THE DAY OF THE DEAD where people in Mexico set up altars to their deceased loved ones. While I was doing my daily check of this message board it came to me to buy the GTA tape for the young boy whose brother was shot. I was a little unsure if his mother would approve of the game but when I went to my breakfast table th Chicago Tribune was there with an article all about the game and the protagonist had survived the murder of his mother by gangbangers. I went out and purchased the game and when gave it to my friend, she agreed that it could help Quentin process his feelings about what happened to his brother Maurice. Play therapy can be very helpful for children, and Quentin has been having a very hard time. I also told them that about Axl's voice being on the tape as a  DJ! I just wanted to share this because i thought it was kind of cool.

Personally I wouldn't give a game about gangsters who go around killing each other and hitting pedestrians as a gift to a kid who's nephew was killed. All the same, I agree about Axl's voice. Estranged always struck me as a staggering vocal performance. On the female side, singers like Brody Dalle, Kat Bjelland, Katie Jane Garside and Courtney Love (flame away) are great therapeutic singers to listen to. Sometimes its good to have someone to scream your pain out for you.

I had mixed feelings about buying the tape for Muarice's brother, but the way paper was opend to the article about the game just made me feel like Maurice's spirit wanted me to give his brother the tape to help him heal. I don't know if any of   you have read books by James Von Prague, but it was a really cool experirnce.

I admit that I still get chills when I hear the studio version of "The Blues" in the 2002 tour radio ad.  I'm talking about the "Aaaah" part. 

I think the beauty of Axl's voice is, in part, that his tremendous range gives the songs powerful emotional dynamics.

You combine that with the fact that he has, IMO, a great sense of melody, and you get really memorable vocal lines.

You know you have found a great singer, when they can make you feel every emotion possible. There are very few musicans that are capable of that. And personally I think Axl is one of the best!!!!!!!!!!!!! Glad to see people share that belief.

the greatest thing about axl's voice is he conveys every emotion so amazingly.

if u are sad he had that calming melancholy voice, if u are angry or upset he has that wail that just knocks it right out of u. his emotion an pain in his voice is unreal


like i get the same effect just in opposite ways from estranged and oh my god

both make me feel better just in different ways, its very interesting how he is able to run the gauntlet of emotions

I like this! Been seeing that a lot of people around the sits are getting emotional. And its cool that they are talking about it! I'm glad everyone is sharing! And hope everyone is well! Us gnr fans have to stick together!

again at Madison Square Garden in '02 it happened again!

Axl is just an amazing emotive performer

You should check out Linda Perry's In Flight and  After Hours. Great singer with great songs. She really screams "on the top of her lungs"....

Believe it or not, I have both! After Hours was a bitch to find. I loved 4NB back in the day - Drifting is a stunning song, and I love the Grace Slick collab and very trippy stuff like Machine Man on 'In Flight'. I probably prefer After Hours though, Fly Away, Jackie, Carry On and the one about drowning that I forget the name of, are all amazingly well written and beautifully performed. I also have some kickass LP bootlegs.

How cool to see another Linda Perry fan on a GNR board. She's always reminded me of a female Axl/Robert Plant.

what the poster is referring to is the general consensus (which some have debated) that the promo ad aired on the radio in several cities for the 2002 tour was made from studio versions of songs - including the blues
