Champions League 2004/05
«
on:
October 26, 2004, 08:33:56 PM »
I thought I'll start a thread about one of the most exciting competitions in world sports since there ain't one.
I'll post tomorrow each group's standings and next week match-ups and we can take it from there.

We already have a football thread, and generally separate football threads get ignored for that one. Also, I really don't want people in that thread to stop talking about the Champions League in favour of this one, cause that thread is damn cool and has a funnier name than this one.
But, posting tables and standings and stuff probably should be kept to a separate thread, so I think this is a cool idea. I think Chelski will win it, by the way.

Ok, let's get the ball rolling then.
What I'm gonna do is post tables and standings regulary. Also the results and any news worthwhile posting. Please feel free to post anything regarding the matches, players, favorites, predictions...whatever you feel it'd contribute to the thread. Also, if you want to add any suggestions, feel free to post them

I'll take the lead then. Try to post who your favorite team is, who's the strongest team so far, best player of the competition...
I see the italian teams very solid so far. Barcelona played a hell of a lot better than Milan last week but lost the match. That should be an indicative of how solid these italian teams are. Inter and Juve have also 9 points.
The spanish teams are off a slow start this year. Bar?a is playing well, but Deportivo and Valencia are struggling. Madrid little by little is gaining confidance. Depor won't qualify for the next round.
The english are there in the money. Chelsea strong, Man U and Arsenal only got 5 points but looks like the three teams will qualify. What happens after that is a whole different ball game. Arsenal has been a strong contender over the past 4 years but have always lost in the quarters.
As for the rest of the teams, One of the underdogs always qualifies. CSKA Moskva might have a chance.
Best players so far I have to say Shevchenko ( Milan) Henry (Arsenal, by the way, he will win the France football award this year), Xavi ( Barcelona) Rooney ( Man U)
Ok guys, let's keep this thread interesting. Your turn.

Round of 16 match ups:
22/02/2005
Real Madrid 20:45 Juventus
Liverpool 20:45 Leverkusen
PSV 20:45 Monaco
Bayern 20:45 Arsenal
23/02/2005
Porto 20:45 Internazionale
Barcelona 20:45 Chelsea
Man. United 20:45 Milan
Bremen 20:45 Lyon
Great match ups there. Bar?a against Chelsea, Madrid Vs Juve, Man U Vs Milan....pretty much all the big dogs - with the exception of Valencia - have survived so far.?
Spanish teams haven't been lucky. I'm sure Chelsea and Juve are not too happy with the draw outcome either.
My prediction:
Bar?a, Juve, Man U, Inter, Bremen, Monaco, Liverpool and Arsenal will go through.

Sorry to upset all you Red Devils on here, but I fancy AC Milan strongly to win it.
