Prince To Play Four Nights on 'Leno'

March 11, 2009 01:03 PM ET

David J. Prince, N.Y.

Prince will perform on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno three nights in a row, March 25-27, as he builds anticipation for the March 29 release of two new albums, "LOtUSFLOW3R" and "MPLSoUND."  Prince will also perform a fourth night on the "Tonight Show," May 28th, in celebration of the end of Leno's run as host of the show.

Both CDs, along with a third by new artist Bria Valente, will be available as a three disc set exclusively through Target for a price of $11.98.

The "Tonight Show" performances are part of a larger roll-out for the CD package in Los Angeles.  In an email message sent to fans who signed up for updates on lotusflow3r.com, Prince wrote, "From the 24th on, there will b a slew of NPG-related events happening around electric LAlaland.. we don't want 2 give away all the details yet, but b prepared 2 get yo groove on, numerous ways 4 numerous days. We know $ is tite but the adventures will b worth ur while! Stay 2ned 2 this outtaspacestation."

D, perhaps you can help.

I read that Prince made a song, on B-side to Gold. Titled "Rock N Roll Is Alive" and it was a reponse to the Lenny Kravitz song Rock N Roll is dead.

Yes

and I use to have it. its called Rock N Roll is Alive and it lives in Minneapolis.

i think he recorded it live at one of his Paisley Park after hour impromptu gigs

I was there!

haha i dont think so.

I havent liked any of his albums after the one he did in 1996.

These two new albums are a return to form. Although id of liked a better production.

I've listened to the Lotus Flower disc

it will take some listens.  I'm never crazy about anything first listen through.

Lotus Flower has lots of wicked guitar playing (can you send me crimson and clover?)

The other album MPLSOUND, is more typical prince, upbeat popy funky stuff.

2nd CD Minneapolis Sound is fucking awesome!

Never be another like me and Chocolate box kick ass

Lotus Flower is somewhat medicore first listen through except for Crimson and Clover, Colonized mind, 4ever and Dreamer

but this damn Minneapolis Sound is right there with some of his best work.

Just had my first listen.  Like most Prince albums outside of a few, there are some real gems and some songs made for the CD skip button.  Prince and GNR are my two favorites by far, and it is an interesting contrast.  Prince is so prolific and releases so much material, and in the body of work sense is absolutely a genius, but on the same token you sometimes get a few good tunes per album as a result.  Then comes GNR, which has not released much, so you are always thirsting for more, and the whole albums for the most part are solid.

I do agree that MPLS Sound definately has some great work on there, and I do prefer that album to Lotus right now.

It looks like LotusFlower is going to move around 150k units and has a chance at number 1 in the states.  I will say I have seen the Target commercial quite a bit, so Target is at least promoting the album.  Plus Prince did his share with the performances on Leno.
