Crash Diet covered by Wildside

According to Melodicrock.com and RLSrecords.com,
Wildside, a 90s hairband (not terrible, either), is releaing a rarities album that features a cover
of the Axl Rose/Wes Arkeen written song Crash Diet.
I'm not sure what this bands relationship is to GnR, or how they obtained the
right to cover the song, since it was just a GnR demo.
But, since there are a lot of fans of the song on here, It's interesting news.
I apologize if this has been posted before, but I didn't see it listed!

It's not exactly a cover, a member of Wild Side co-wrote the song.

The song was released in an Asphalt Ballet's album, so it's not just a GNR demo.

according to the information in the Asphalt Ballet 'Pigs' album, Axl co-wrote Crash Diet with Danny Clarke, West Arkeen and Del James. Not sure what Wildside had to do with this song though. Seems to be a cover anyway.

Well, Danny Clarke was a member of Wild Side. And the Asphalt Ballet version
is
a cover.

Yeah, I got mixed up. It's the other way round. Danny Clarke co-wrote the song, but neither Asphalt Ballet nor Guns N' Roses originally used it.
A few years later, that band called Wild Side heard the song and recorded it, but they needed the authorization of at least one of the songwriters to release it. None of them gave the authorization (so why are they releasing it now, that's a mystery)
Then Asphalt Ballet decided to release it, and Axl sued them to try and stop it. But since they were within the law (they had one of the songwriters in the band), they were able to release it on that album called "Pigs".
Am I clearer now?

How do you know that? Are you an AB's fan?
Anyways, thanks for the info. I liked the AB's version, but the GNR demo for me is way better...

Never heard Axl sued them!
The lesson is: never write a song with someone who has/may have a band of his/her own
