hey i was wondering what the best way to get a guitar like slash used for appetite for destruction era is? Like i know he got it made for him by that chris derring guy and i was wondering if i got someone to build a guitar for me custom if it would be a good way to get his sound any help and suggestions is appreciated.

Good question, I also would like to know how can you make a guitar that sounds so cool. Would it be expensive? I assume back there in the begining slash wasn't as rich as he is now.

There are several things you need if you want the exact slash sound. He?s guitars is tuned in one way and the amp he use is very expensive i think.
But you can get very close to the sound if you buy this, but that?s my opinion.

You have to buy a Gibson Les Paul, or the cheaper Epiphone Les Paul. But one thing i don?t think you schoul save your money is on the pick up. I have several Gibson Les Paul with diffrent pick ups, and i just bought the new Gibson slash signature Les Paul and it has the "Seymour Duncan Alnico pro 2" pick ups that slash has in near ALL his guitars, and let me tell you the plays a hell lot better than some of the other guitars i have.

Then i think you schould buy a Marshall amp. That?s the amp slash has used the most of his life.

But i cant really afford a gibson les paul and i dont really trust epiphones. would getting a 59 les paul replica built be cheaper than getting a les paul? And then i wouldnt have to change the pickups or anything because it would be built like his, thankx for the replies

For  AFD sound you just need a Gibson Les Paul  with SD alnico 2 pro pickups, and a marshall jcm 800, marshall jubilee or marshall slash signature.

Getting 59 replica like Slash has is gonna cost you around the same as a Gibson 59 Reissue Les Paul... $4000. It may be better though if it's made with quality wood like the Derrig Slash used on AFD. Don't think about getting a real Derrig either, they go for $8000 or more. You can go the "live" Slash route and get a mid 80's Les Paul Standard and drop in some of Slash's custom Alnico II Pro pickups.

I can't remember if it was the producer or G N R's manager that bought Slash the Derrig. Also, at the time when Chris Derrig was still alive his guitars weren't as valuable as they are today. Back then Gibson wasn't making proper reissues like they do today. Another replica builder who goes by the name Max also made a run of very authentic 58/59/60 sunburst Les Pauls that can bring $10,000 or more in todays used guitar market.

+1? ? .///? I tell people this all the time, but many people don't seem to understand this. The guitar does not have to be show-room shine. but the year DOES make a difference & many times you can pick up a killer sounding Gibson Les Paul for the same price as a brand new Epi.? ? nothing wrong with buying a good sounding used gibby that is knicked up

You can get one built for maybe 2 grand.
