I know it's an old chessnut all this should he retire the name however unlikely it is, but if it happened what should they call themselves?
What would appeal to a new audience? But maintain the loyal fan base already existing.
Despite being a die-hard Gunners fan I help but think the name Guns N' Roses now sounds a little dated, it was a phenominem that belongs in the past.
I believe retaining the name is what is holding the band back, surely Axl and the replacements would benefit from a fresh start away from all those comparisons to the old line-up.
I have no suggestions for a name myself but would be interested in others opinions.

Axl Rose.  His name is just as popular as GNR.  And I still wish to this day that he would have continued that way.

Axl & the Replacements.

nevermind - that's not a name for a fresh start either.

how about Dubya?

or just stick with the GN'R name cuz he believes in it.

Axl Rose would have been good.  I agree with the notion that he should have retired the GNR name when everyone left.  I think this is more of a solo project than anything.  The name Axl Rose would have held its own in the promotion department.

I've always loved "Guns For Hire" a reference from a Bruce Springsteen song "Dancing in the Dark" dealing with working a shitty 3rd shift job, like i do, It fits Axl and his boys. I think he could also just change his name to ROSE. He's an icon like Madonna or Prince, why not just have a one word name

I don't think the band signed on to be a 'backup' band. The name 'Axl Rose' or 'The Axl Rose Band' creates the idea that this was a solo project and Tommy has stated numerous times that all individuals were involved in the songwriting process. I would not object (like anyone gives a flying crap what I think) if the band used the name 'G&R'. The ampersand could replace the 'N' and we could all still call it the same thing, the only difference being in the spelling.

But I would still rather not worry about all of that.

I see your point.  But at the end of the day, who signs their checks?

G&R is perfect.

Name recognition and a fresh start along with respect to the past.
