Did Izzy ever played any lead solos?

Hi, I'm new here
There's one thing that's puzzling my mind. I don't know a single track that I know for sure Izzy plays lead guitar on. He's credited for lead guitar too even on Appetite For Destruction, but almost all GN'R solos just seem to have a very clear Slash signature on them, so I can't tell. Especially I'd like to know which solos he plays, because I think he's a great player and it would be cool to judge his soloist abilities too. Do you have any answers?

I think he plays part of the Nightrain solo.

Keep in mind that playing "lead" doesn't necessarily mean solos. It means the lead during the verses too.

Try listeing to some GNR (particularly Appetite for Destruction) through a set of headphones.
You generally get one guitar playing in each ear, one is Slash, one is Izzy. Most of the songs have more than two guitar tracks, but headphones will help you to easily spot Izzy's guitar solos.
He definitely plays the first few bars of the first solo in Nightrain, as well as the electric solo in Double Talkin' Jive.
I think he may have played a bit of lead in Don't Damn Me as well... the sort of quiet, less distorted guitar that twiddles out a little solo after Slash's main solo sounds like it could be Izzy.

Izzy is always on the left speaker and Slash on the Right.
Except on some of the Illusions tracks where Slash played Izzy's parts.

I'm pretty sure the lead intro to Back Off Bitch is Izzy too.

That's how it was credited in the liner-notes of
Lies
.
Slash and Izzy made a great, one-two punch combo.....

Hi,
Izzy played solos on the following songs:-
Nightrain (first solo)
Think About You (all of them)
Rocket Queen (intro solo)
Back Off Bitch (intro solo)
Double Talkin' Jive (electric solo, not classical solo -- neither live)
Honky Tonk Women (final solo, live - milton keynes '93)
He also played some lead guitar on the following tracks, although Slash played the solos:-
Welcome To The Jungle (over the top of Slash's intro riff, jam section in middle)
It's So Easy (few high notes over the top of Slash's intro riff)
Mr. Brownstone (everything apart from solo)
My Michelle (few high notes over the top of Slash's intro riff)
Pretty Tied Up (few notes here and there, tho not credited as such in sleeve)
You Could Be Mine (dominant riff, tho not credited as lead guitar in sleeve)
Estranged (credited as such in sleeve, though not sure where)
Anyway, Izzy has more rhythm than Slash... and Slash is a better lead player than Izzy.
Cheers,
Rob.

I didn't think Izzy was in GN'R at that point...
Slash said in an interview once that he actually recorded a lot of Izzy's parts on the UYI albums because Izzy only did one take per song, and was never there.
In saying that, Izzy's solo on Double Talkin Jive was superb. I don't think Slash could ever replicate it live either.

izzy replaced gilby sometime when gilby broke his arm when he fell with his MC :S (i think) but i didnt know it was in 93 :S
but there are some solo's and lead part that uses both the left and the right chan... but that is mostly when there are 3 guitars in the picture...
alittle of topic, the new GNR, how doses it work with 3 guitarslingers? one in the mmiddle and one on each side, or 2 on one side?

Yes, Izzy was back for five gigs in May '93 after Gilby broke his arm. The final night at Milton Keynes saw a performance of Honky Tonk Women as a nine-piece:-
Vocals: W. Axl Rose, Gilby Clarke
Lead & Rhythm Guitars: Slash, Ron Wood
Rhythm & Lead Guitars: Izzy Stradlin'
Bass Guitar: Duff McKagan
Piano: Dizzy Reed
Harmonica: Mike Monroe
Drums: Matt Sorum
Percussion: Axl
Backing Vocals: Mike, Izzy, Ron, Duff, Matt, Dizzy, Slash
There is a screen-shot video of the gig in the bootleg trading pool. I recentley acquired a copy on VCD and have subsequently put it through a digital remaster. Both video and audio are now very watchable and listenable. You can download it from the GN'R hub... look for my nickname: Muff.
Cheers,
Rob.

I was just wondering if Izzy played any GNR solo back in the good old days or maybe he's just lazy.
