I am Back!!!!!!

WWW
« on: September 18, 2004, 03:44:01 AM »

for a very long time ive been tryin to put my finger on exactly why music sucks these days.

I was watchin the Fall to Pieces video just now and it hit me.

There are no front men anymore at all, most dudes on mtv and vh1 look like fratboys in college or some shit.

anyhow i have a new respect for scott weiland cause he is real, i mean he isnt fake and he sings about what he has lived.? another thing scott works his ass off onstage and makes u feel everything he sings.

Will the era of real rock n roll frontmen ever come back? I mean there are very very few, i really dont consider anyone in a new band to be what i consider real.

i enjoy watchin scott perform and the fall to pieces video gave me chills because u know it is so autobiographical, just the way he had his real wife in the video and all the scenes and images.

of course matt sorum fucks that video up, mr i kiss 2 women at once, matt is still lame! hihi but i do love scott weiland!

Don't know....as much as I like VR, the word poser comes to mind when seeing Scott.

He is the singer and should be leading the band. And all I see him do is holding his middle finger up to anyone who looks at him. What is he, 12?Huh?

He should get over his issues and lead this band into something beyond great instead of imitating Bowie and Iggy Pop.....

If you want real frontman, buy a Mark Lanegan album.  Tongue

He doesn't dance or run around on stage, he's there to sing and he means it.  ok

I feel teh same D, when I see hoobastank, yellowcard, new found glory, etc I see people singing that look like 15 year olds.. I like scott because he has a jagger bowie type attitude and apperance,, They were all flamboyant.. He has attitude, not manifactured.. Anyways anyone that followed stp can see he's a killer frontman, Core was/is one of my favorite albums

Jarmo u almost have me talked in to buying that dang mark lanegan album!

Scott isnt a poser, and come on!!!!!!! one of the great things about Axl is how he doesnt give a shit, i love scotts attitude, i love the fact he got pissed off and threw his megaphone at people, whats happened to some of u? that is kick ass scott doin that!

When Axl jumped into the crowd at st louis and popped that dude, i thought it was the coolest thing ever, same with scott!

I like frontmen who cause controversy and are real, that is scott!

Scott dances like a maniac, he is reallyinto everything he sings.

i watched VH1's top 20 countdown for the first time in months and i must say Fall to Pieces was the only video that really glued me to the tv, it was also up from 19 to 14.

It was awesome cause you know u are truly gettin a glimpse into scott's life and its not just some made up video, if VR had only performed but had an actor doin scott's part, the video wouldnt be good, but Scott is amazing in that video.

when i ever perform my own stuff again, i take pointers on how to do it from Axl,jon bon jovi and now Scott Weiland cause when they perform u know who the star is!

Well, I always liked the Stone Temple Pilots, but Scott Weiland never truly struck me until I saw the video for Slither.  His performance in that video just blew my mind - he is THE rock 'n' roll frontman right now, with only Justin Hawkins from The Darkness being any real competition.  The way he moves around on stage, the skinny heroin-addict physique, hell, even the tight silver pants...it all made him seem like a real rock god, the highest class of music star.  I wish he'd kept the spiky, longish hair he had in the Slither video, though.  That was cool, but then he cut it down to close-cropped again.  Shame, shame, shame.

Scotts the best frontman out there since Cobain and Eddie Vedder in his early years. He also writes his own music and lyrics so hes definately far from a poser  Roll Eyes. He can also dance which most frontmen in the past 10 years are terrible at.

Excuse the arm but Scott is a shot in the arm for rock n roll,as are Velvet Rrevolver...he has something about him that only Axl and a few others could muster

I dig Weiland as well, that said, there's plenty of great frontmen/women out there.

As Jarmo said, Lanegan is amazing? Don't forget Josh Homme, Brody Dalle, Cornell, Manson, Love. Dave fuckin" Wyndorf (who's right there with Weiland at the top of the rock heap).

Others on the rise you ask?? JS Clayden of Doheny (formerly of the seminal Pitchshifter) and Steve Isaacs (former Skycycle) of Navarro, Cheney and Perkins new outfit,? The Panic Channel.? Also, look for Jerry Cantrell to step up front? if (when?) The Cardboard Vampyres record original music.

that's a really good and often overlooked talent. i think scott is absolutely one of the best around right now. he has style, charisma, attitude, vocal ability, everything important to a front man. i personally also respond to his lyrics. i like the obscure lyrics.  Smiley

yah - I agree.? There was this one photo shoot of them where Scott has kinda long black hair, and he looked the coolest I've ever seen him look.

He is a great performer on stage.

Scott Weiland is an utterly unremarkable front man in terms of personality and ability - the whole drug addict thing was sad in the 1980's - now its somehwere between laughable and pathetic.

If he's a great rock n roll front man then people like Axl and Robert Plant and Jim Morrison etc etc etc must be truly earth shattering.

I agree their is a lack of good front man out their - Scott ain't changed that, just because he can't keep himself together and has a go at the press hardly makes him rock's saviour.....

You missed the point completely Izzy.? Scott isn't a good frontman because of his drug addiction, he's a good frontman because of his stage presence, and his ability to perform.? He gives you something to look at besides a guy standing up there singing.  He's a larger than life figure, and not just anybody could pull off his stage persona.  If you don't understand that, oh well.

I relate to his lyrics too. Especially on Plush, Interstate Love song and Big Empty. It took a few years , but i noticed those songs are much easier to relate to than most anything else on the radio. He does it on so many different songs too.

I ran out to buy COre, stp is a very underrated group, and scott is a very underrated frontman,..
I'll always be for gnr first, but the fact someone goes scott is gay, his outfits are gay, his moves are gay, is just bullshit especially when you have the same type of frontam in axl that is known for his cigarette holders, biker shorts borderline women's underwear, plus all teh glam in the early days.. I liked all opf axl's clothes but to say scott is gay then that utter stupidity.. Even the dancing with axl is nothing great, ever see the orgasm face he makes, he does it in the vmas..

The point is no fan of gnr should be calling anyone gay, I feel that way about both guys
