i looked around on the board for topics about tommy but there really weren't alot to choose from, so i decided to make my own. let me begin by saying that i have been following and listening to guns n' roses since i was seven years old, in 1990, and no band or artist has ever come close to me likeing them as much as i like gnr. in 1998/1999 my family got the internet and i started paying close attention to whatever axl did now, which obviously was very little at the time, at least not a whole lot reached the public. the big news event at the time was the 1998 airport arrest and his failure to show up in court in early 1999 or whatever. but there was some talk about the people he worked with on this shadowy new guns n' roses album which was supposed to come out (i remember the techno rumours at the time), and one of those people was tommy stinson, which had replaced duff on bass. after seeing some pictures of the guy and looking up some of the stuff he had done on the internet, i really took a liking of him. and when, in january 2001, after years of waiting and after seeing axl on stage with gilby in 2000, my expectations and hopes for this new band was finally exceeded. and i got the confirmation i needed that tommy really was a cool guy, not to mention a great bass player and a good friend of axl's. and in the three years that have followed that event, including a couple of tours and rock in rio 3, tommy has provided fans with the information he has had on the new record without really disappointing anyone and has assured fans that their waiting will be worthwhile. plus he has praised axl as a good friend, a musical genious and an all around great guy. i just wanted to make this little appreciation thread about tommy stinson. he's been a favourite of mine since day one and the fact that he's been around since day one and actually replaced duff mckagen makes his credibility terrific in my eyes.

We hear news from the band primarily from Dizzy, Tommy and once in awhile Axl writes a letter.

Tommy has by far given us the most info. On another angle Tommy is always giving credit to Axl, Tommy has a lot of repect for him and has more involvement than any other band member with the media.

I wonder if tommy wasn't touring if we'd hear anything??

Yeah, Tommy and Dizzy seem to be pretty informed when compared to everyone else in the "band."  I mean, when was the last time you heard something from Finck, Pittman, Brain, or Fortus.  It's been awhile.  I think these guys are mostly just interchangable parts (Fortus and Pittman especially) that are only needed once in a while, while Stinson and Dizzy are in on the mix.  Axl said back in the early 1990's that the band was pretty much him and Slash, with Duff agreeing to everything (although Izzy was highly involved before he left), and I think it's the same way now with Tommy and Dizzy.

I don't trust Stinson since he said in 2003: "If we take over the world by spring,Ill be happy"

I would liek to extend that appreciation a little more and give some credit to the other members of GNR....

Particularly Robin and Brain, and then fortus and Bucket......

Robin and Tommy are the core of GNr. They have basically been here since day 1 of "new' gnr. They have been through it all. ANd they probably have had the biggest impacts on the new material other than Axl.

Im extremely grateful to this band and I appreciate everything they have done. To most, you all are sayung they have done jack shit. And yea you are right. But to me they mean much more. I came along when this was in the early stages and I have seen them grow and develop into somehting.
A lot of peopel cant stand the silence. But I love it. I love the fact that they hid inside a hole all of these yrs and have made music. Music that will hopefully tear everyone a new asshole.

The biggest thing I admire is the fact that they stuck through with Axl despite all the negative shit they get from the press and some fans.  They continued to stay low and not say anything. They have put up with the bullshit that came with this project...

When I think of this band, I think of excitement and fukin balls. And I cant wait till they make all the haters eat shit......

youngunner

Staying with the band is in their best interest, they can use axl to further their own careers... So they got some negative press, it isn't like they're in the limelight, they get some half ass people intervieing them, they hardly have it rough...

Did you expect positive prss on the forever album, using the same band name without the old guys, canceled tour.. I'd say the negative stuff is more about axl then anyone..

Really? How has Chris Pittman, Robin Finck, Brain, Bucket, and Fortus benefited thier careers because they are in GNR. ? HAlf the world has no clue who they are. The other half only know about them because they are in GNR. Brain, and Bucket already had established careers and have done nothing to abuse or use the GNR name. Same with Tommy. He is th eonly member who has had any type of major mainstream success. Peopel knew about him before GNr. He is a music vet. A respected musician. I didnt seem him promoting himself from when he got here till now. He justr released a godam album.

I just dont understand where you are coming from on this one.

Im sure they enjoy playing on stage and knowing that the only reason people are there is because of Axl and the whole GNR thing. Fortunately for them...that will soon change...once that bell rings, its their turn to shine...

Yes, most of the negative stuff is Axl/gnr managements fault. I agree. But they still get a bad wrap. Half the hsit thats written is not even tru. Its all rumors and bullshit. Its comical....
Foreever album? How SO? 1999-2005 is only 6 yrs. ^ yrs of making a shitload of what is hope to be meaningful/great music. Thats not that long....

As for the band name. You either accept or you dont. Its a dead issue. The only way the band will get over that is when they release the material.......

I think brain, bucket, dizzy, tommy have definetly furthered their careers by being with gnr, tommy even got axl's help to support his shelved album.. Bucket got known by every single gnr fan, he must have been seen by 100,000 people with the tours..

All I was saying is there is alot of personal benifits by staying with axl outisde the band

Again, mention any of those names to anyone on the street and they will have no clue who they are. Of course being in GNR has helped them in terms of exposure but its not like they have abused it or anything. Maybe a littl emore exposure than they would have originally gotten. The only news fans they really have picked up are some gnr fans. Thats about it. Its not liek some1 right is saying yea i gotta pick up that Tommy/Bucket/Brain album because hes in GNR. Only if your a gnr fan that might be the case.

Yes, and old members have reaped those befits as well. Gilby, Sorum, etc

I'm `all for side projects, I just hate the idea that things weren't done and they had so much free time..

I agree about asking about those guys that no one will know them, this is something I fear with chinese d as well.. I have seen it first hand since the vmas... Everyone I worked with knew I was a gnr fan, they know I love the group, they would be like what happened to axl, even was that axl..Did he have surgery, who was the dude in the bucket, where was slash, who were the other guys,,
I've been defending them every year, I think it's time for this album, I'm sick of the people saying move on, gnr is dead, etc.. It would be nice to have them come out blazing..

Honestly though, wouldn't the publicity be smart to start now?? I wisah mtv news would say something simple like gnr fans, ready for this, the new gnr album which has been going on for years now is a reality, now date has been set but axl's camp has said that the album is done.. Would create a buzz outisde forums, the 2002 buzz was great, but it has withered excpet for the seasoned fan who views the boards..I'm sure the shows like BTM, and a2z sparked some old gunner's minds,...

Things werent done? For the most part, most of the members work has been completed. WHy should they stick around? I dont get what your saying.

And thats teh beauty of this new band. They are not known. That is why the music will either make them known or a laughing stock. I rather have a bunch of no names in this band that a bunch of mainstream all stars.

Why? Why the hell does it matter whether MTV mentions GNR or not. WHo the fuck cares. It means nothing. No1 will take GNR seriosuly until they begin the promotional stuff. Till then GNr is dead.
Why are you so wrapped up in creating a buzz? When everything is planned and set in stone then the media will know and begin to talk about it. Just relax.

MTV is not going to use 5 min of there time going from Fat Joe to talk about GNR. Just for the sake of talking about gNr. MTV doesnt even talk about active rock bands. Why would htey talk about GNR? They will when things get goin. But why now? because people on a message board think so

You keep saying how yoiu wnat GNR to do something. Why? whats the point. If they arent going to release the singles, videos, albums, tour then why say anything? SO they can tell you that there alive? Trust me they are doing fine. They are planning everything that needs to be planned. Just relax. When things are ready to roll all of thta good stuff will follow

AFD created its own buzz and if CD is as good as AFD than CD will make its own buzz, it wont need mtv to make it for them.  AFD started off slowly then more ande more people started hearing it, then  it got huge. The same can happen with the new album
