13 years ago this week UYA was released. I waited for an hour to get it. Remember the exitement in the weeks before it was released?

I've asphyxiated waiting...

I recall that my mother had reservations about me purchasing them due to the explicit content sticker...The kicker was that she asked the employee if the albums were reallly that offensive, and the guy was like, "er uh, not at all."  Here's to Moms being naive suckers... Grin  Or perhaps loving enough to allow their sons and daughters to enjoy music they so obviously love...
For my birthday that year, she bought me a birthday cake with the blood-drenched GNR logo from the center page on it...Ungrateful little shit I was; I can recall being pissed that she tore the center montage out of the booklet to bring to the baker....Awesome nonthelesss....Still got a photo of the cake too!!

Cheers,
Joe

I remember...

I skipped class to go to HMV. If you bought UY1 you got UY2 for free. It was a great deal, so I bought a copy of the tape and the copy of the CD. The only reason I got the tape was so that I could sit in the library all day back at school and listen to each album over and over again.

The funny thing was, due to the line-up being so long at HMV the news crew showed up and did a story on it. It was the first time ever that people of this magnitude lined up for a new album; however, that meant that my face was on the front page of the Entertainment section of the Herald! I had to keep it out of my parents reach for fear of being busted! Great memory!!!!

Just chatting with some friends last night about the release of CD. They asked if I would take off early from work to get it. I already have plans to take the entire day off, and am hoping for a midnight sale at HMV or A&B Sound. This new album WILL make history, trust me!!!

Aaron.

I remember waiting in line at midnight with my college roomate at The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.  Since he bought both Illusions on CD I bought Ozzy Osbourne's No More Tears which was also released that day.

I remember sitting at school waiting for the Swedish class to end. Then when it did at 3, I went to the record store and got the LPs (this was before I had a CD player).

Then I went home and listened to the albums all the way through and I remember recognizing some of the tracks from the concert I saw a month before.

A local radio station played UYI 1 AND 2 in their entirety and unedited the weekend before their release.  I think it was UYI 1 starting at 10p on Friday night and UYI 2 at 10p onj Saturday...I taped 'em both.  A little independent music store near me called me, told me to come in, and sold me the CDs on Monday morning, very quietly...the customer behind me asked the guy behind the counter (my buddy Todd) if he could get it, too...Todd looked a little freaked, but he said "Okay, but don't fucking tell ANYBODY" and the customer promised, so he bought 'em, too.
I never had to wait in line for 'em...loved that little store.  They also had a good selection of bootleg shows for $30 for a single disc, $60 for the 2-cd sets.  Most Guns shows were 2-disc.  God, I spent a lot of money!

I was only 6 in 1991 when it was released.

I didn't buy the ILLusion Albums until around the last day of 2003.

I do..  Man that was like x-mas, birthdays and summer vacation times 100 !!
I stayed in my room for 3 weeks, memorizing the lyrics, and learning all the songs...  The funny thing is, I kind of knew who of the songs that the mass would like, don't ask me how, it was just a feeling I got...  It was great times, and all the people in school could at least some of the songs, and you were cool if you could play some instrument..Fuck how I miss those days !! Yeah, I was eight so I was in the third grade playing basketball on the blacktop.  But I remember all of the older kids talking about it.  I didn't really know what it was but I knew it had to be something.

I remember it well.  I was in college and me and my roommates went to the music store at midnight to buy it.

I also remember that the Metallica album with Enter Sandman on it was released at the same exact date and time (I forget the name of the album).  So the long line had about 90% GNR fans and 10% Metallica fans.  It was fun because it almost came to blows a few times between the groups.

Estranged............The Guns n' Roses Story

« Reply #14 on: September 13, 2004, 01:29:40 PM »

spring semester of my sophmore year of college.

I bought it the next day and let my buddy in the dorm room next to stay up to midnight.

5th had a 8am. 5th needed his sleep.

It was really cool and everyone was talking about it. Good and Bad.

The whole tour thing in the summer and the hype was huge. I do not see Axl creating that much hype with CD. Not with this new band.

Here in mexico it took more time to be released, I remember how everyday after school I just rushed to the phone to ask the guys in the radio every single day to play any song they could from the new albums. It was simply amazing when I finally got them. Somehow since the begining I always felt more atracted to Illusion II.  When Axl finally returns it will be just like when we finally got the Star Wars prequels, I hardly can wait.
