Don't follow my footsteps, i walk into poles

« on: September 06, 2004, 02:10:27 PM »

I Don't know if this has ever been discussed on the board before, but I was listening to the illusioin albums yesterday and noticed lots of the songs almost r like sequals to each other or at least very similar.  Here are some of the songs I notice this in and feel free to modify or post your own

Dust N' Bones - 14 Years, I think these songs definitely have a pretty similar sound

Live and Let Die - Knockin on Heaven's Door, both classic covers

Perfect Crime - Shotgun Blues, Very similar tempos and overall sounds.

Back Off Bitch - You Could Be Mine

November Rain - Estranged

Don't Cry - Don't Cry [Alt. Lyrics]

Coma - Locomotive

Well this is what I think, post what you think

without trying to sound insulting, ofcourse they're gonna sound similar. they were written by the same people (rose/stradlin/slash)  in most cases.

also lyrically they written about what was going on in their lives and they where written about the same time so thats why they touch simliar themes,  musically its because of what 2NaFish said above

How can KOHD be a sequel to Live and Let Die?

I see the similarities in the other songs though.

I've always thought Coma, Novmeber Rain, Estranged, Locomotive and Breakdown as one long song divided into parts. There all mostly written by Axl and in the Illusion albums they delve deep into the mind and feelings of Axl compared to Appetite and Lies. Thats why those songs mentioned above all sound like 1 song divided up though. You can tell Axl is trying to get somehting out and explain how his emotions are.

Estranged is more like Breakdown.

yeah, I noticed that too, and besides that I think both are two of the key gems of the UYI twins. I think 14 years and Yesterdays sound alike, maybe thats just me though. Undecided

I'd put Estranged with Coma, both complicated, tons of great guitar tunes, both deep lyrically, both epic. I really don't get how Coma sounds like Locomotive...

I always heard that for UYI everyone brought in their own songs that got worked on so I don't think any connection would be intentional. I am not sure I quite get what you're saying here either. At least lyrically....locomotive and coma? I don't see any type of connection or sequel there. I could see a similar sound on some of them but as far as being "sequels" I have to disagree.

the coma lyrics are amazing.

'Yeah it's easy to be hungry
When you ain't got shit to lose
And I wish that I could help you
With what you hope to find
But I'm still out here waiting
Watching reruns of my life
When you reach the point of breaking
Know it's gonna take some time
To heal the broken memories
That another man would need
Just to survive'

yaaa we know it
