Apparently former Cult bassist and current Doheny/Camp Freddy member got a call to audition for GNR a few weeks ago..

Interesting...

http://dohenymusic.typepad.com/dohenymusic/

"I dont know anyone from the current G'n'R line up, but funnily enough, someone called me a few weeks back to ask me if I was interested in auditioning for the band as a guitarist! I politely turned it down!! To start with, my heart and soul is in Doheny, and secondly, I just cant play like I am sure they would want me to......Billy Morrison attempting a Slash solo is pretty funny!!! I've always said that I am 100% Steve Jones, NOT Steve Vai!! (For the non-players reading this, that means that I am primarily a rhythm player, not a lead player)"

Ok, let me get this straight. The former Cult bassist gets a call for a guitarist spot for GNR???!!!

Who is this guy anyway? is he the short-blonde hair guy??

Besides, this guy doesn't play lead. If Axl is looking for another guitarist, shouldn't he be looking to replace Buckethead ( lead)??

Billy was basically the Cult's touring bass player..not sure if he recorded with them on their last LP a couple
of years ago.
He's younger than the other guys in the  cult and has short black hair. The blonde hair guitarist is Billy Duffy, who by the way, is a great player and is/was recently gigging around LA in a cover band called "Cardboard Vampires" with
Jerry Cantrell and John Corabi.

Billy is a guitarist by trade, he was touring bassist for The Cult on the '01 "Beyond Good and Evil" world tour, a friend of the band from England.? He comes from a punk background and has been around the scene in England for years before migrating to LA in 2000 to join The Cult.? He's parlayed his stint in The Cult and has become quite the LA scenester, a very cool guy who I've had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with on numerous occassions.

Interesting ramifications for sure, I guess we can put the "BH still in the band" rumors to rest..

I had heard Billy talking about this offer a few week ago while on hold to answer a trivia question on Camp Freddy Radio so I do believe it to be absolutely legit.

In case this info was true, why would Axl want to audition another rythim guitarist?

So they are actively searching for a new guitarist to replace BH?  Except they didnt ask a lead guitarist to fill his shoes. weird.

Dave Navarro is also in Camp Freddy, and he was also asked to join at one point.  Now Billy and Dave can share a chuckle over politely refusing to join the band.

1. He doesn't know what he wants.
2. He's crazy.
3. One of the remaining two guitarists left/was fired.

Because Finck (and possibly Fortus) is a competent lead player in his own right

Agreed. And Fortus was asked to join the band in the lead before Buckethead, so it seems like he's the one to fill B-head's shoes now. GNR needs now only someone to play rhythm, like Fortus and Paul Tobias did.

Yep,
but this bit sounds like he was asked to be a lead.

You never know. Maybe they DO want a rhythm guy since Finck is moving up to lead, but he just assumed that due to Bucket leaving, they wanted him to play lead, so he turned them down.

I'll really miss seeing old buck on the side of the stage. this is a huge mistake. Axl should give Big B a call and give him whatever he wants.

This is what I think,Since they asked Billy Morison to audition they probably have some other people lined up also.In that case we could hear of a new member at any time.

Billy currently gigging with some of the best musicians in the world via Camp Freddy and is a member of the hottest LA buzz band in LA at this point in time so I doubt he's being anything less than legit, his peer group would never let him hear the end of it..

NO no no no and no! Guns n' Roses doesn't need a Metal guitarist. This is not the sound of this band:
Guns N ' Roses is a ROCK N ROLL band. Fortus is the man.

Dont think axl would ask a BASSIST to play lead.
