According to The Internet Nirvana Fan Club, a NIRVANA box set will be released on November 23, 2004. Consisting of three CDs and one DVD, the box set will contain "previously unreleased rarities and b-sides," including a total of over 50 unreleased recordings including Kurt Cobain's demos. The DVD, which will come with the first pressing only, will feature previously unseen footage and live performances. A 60-page booklet will also be included in the package.

CObain is over rated but he is a great lyricist and singer...

there are some demos of already released songs but from what I've heard about 2/3 of it are songs that haven't been heard and are mostly acustic stuff.

There are two kinds of box sets:

The Good Kind
These contain mainly "new" songs, B-sides, or previously unreleased recordings of songs that nobody's heard.  This is good because it's like an actual new record, but Supersized.  This usually means that the artist is extremely prolific and wrote a lot of songs that didn't make it onto released studio albums.  Examples include Bruce Springsteen's Tracks and Bon Jovi's upcoming 100,000,000 Bon Jovi Fans Can't Be Wrong.

The Lame Kind
These contain rereleased masters, "alternative takes, demos, and radio session tracks" - in other words, songs that people have heard a million times before, but in slightly modified versions.  This results when an artist is less prolific in their writing, OR the vault doesn't contain many more original songs.  Examples include Motley Crue's Music To Crash Your Car To, The Beatles' Anthology, and Nirvana's upcoming With The Lights Out, or so it seems.

Hmm, 50 un-released tracks? Have you thought about why they were un-released?

It's just a damn money-making scheme.

Yeah, but if you were going to promote a Greatest Hits CD, then wouldn't you choose the best of the unreleased songs with which to promote?

Meaning, in essence, that it won't get any better than You Know You're Right...(Of course this is all in opinion)

....And You Know You're Right was...

...Well...

...Hmm.

Yeah of course another one trying put down Nirvana. Well thats b/c Kurdt when out in his prime. Maybe Bon and Bruce should have thought about doing that... and the fact that nirvana  still has alot of unrelease songs out thier they could be box set..

Alot more people will be intrested in nirvana than bon jovi thats a fact...

I'm not trying to put down Nirvana...I'm listening to them a lot these days.  They were a great punk band, I just think they were a little overrated.  Music journalists and stuff deify Kurt Cobain primarily because he's dead and his band was around at the right time.  He wrote a lot of great songs, but Nirvana albums also had a lot of filler.  I think that if Kurt was still around, Nirvana would be primarily remembered as a better-than-average punk band that crossed over into the mainstream.

I am looking forward to this release, I am looking forward to seeing the tracks that are going to be on this, I am sure there are going to be alot of alternate versions of tracks that already are available, but this will still be a worthwhile purchase, alot of people dont like Nirvana that follow bands such as Guns etc , but i have always been a huge fan, In Utero is a great album, possibly the best album of the 90's.

It all depends upon what they're considering to be "unreleased."  I have a feeling there will at least be a few nuggs for the die-hards....well worth it, IMO, even if it only serves to collect the rare stuff i've got on countless cd's and tapes into a single, tidy package...
