Why Izzy disapointed me so much?

I remember when I heard that Izzy was going to release his first solo album. I was so excited, I thought, this is the guy who wrote like half of the best GNR songs ever!!! its going to be amazing. What do we get? slow blues rock that kind of copies the rolling stones. Lame in my opinion. Has Izzy ever said why he took the dark path of blues instead of sticking to his more agressive side? does it has to do with the time he spend in rehab after the Illusions?

Well the type of music the stones made is what got him into music to begin with so obviously he has a proclivity towards it. Plus he had just spent a decade making the kind of music he made with guns, maybe he wanted to do soemthing different. And if he wanted to make guns style songs wouldn't he just stay with guns? It makes alot of sense if you think about it.

Izzy dissapointed me by not doing a few shows with the New York Dolls (mainly because I could have seen him)  but I understand he hates touring.  Fair enough only damn you izzy for not playing it could have been awesome!

I love Izzy's solo stuff...working with Woody on the first album, that was totally cool (for me anyway) I think you have to have a passion for the blues to dig Izzy's stuff...I'll admit I was a bit disappointed when he backed out of that NY Dolls gig but Izzy has never kept it a secret that he HATES touring...I can't blame the dude for that....I hate to pack...think I'm a bit more disappointed that he hasn't moved on getting the latest piece of work out and about- even if it's an import- I'd buy it

Izzy left because Slash, Duff and Matt wanted a lead singer. Izzy didn't want a lead singer, he thought he and Duff could have shared the vocals.

Izzy/Slash/Duff/Matt wrote songs together, but when Scott Weiland joined he said these were 'too much GN'R-type' songs and he had no intention singin' them, so they wrote new songs. Slash said that maybe Izzy will release their 10 tracks on an album, which the top-hatted one described as 'the best songs GN'R has ever written'. I just can't wait!

No? We joked about it. I mean that?s what Izzy? There was a point when Izzy was hangin? out with us, we already had Dave Kushner, but Izzy called up one day and he goes: ?I?ve been writin? some songs ? what are you guys doin??? And we said: ?We?re just lookin? for singers and jammin? down at the rehearsal studio. So he came down and we hang out for couple weeks and we wrote probably (pause) about ten songs that I think would probably make? It?s sort of fantasy for some people but probably the best Guns N? Roses record (notice: by the way ? this sentence broke my heart). All the music was very sort of? Because me and Izzy and Duff playin? together obviously it?s gonna sound like that. But it was cool, we had a good time, it was very nostalgic and all that kinda stuff and I remember at one point Izzy was goin?: ?Let?s just roll all the shit and I will sing and Duff will sing, we?ll go out?. And it sounds cute and everything but my aspirations were a way higher. So when Izzy took off we just continued on doin? what we were doin??

No? They all sounded a way too Guns N? Roses. But they might ( ? didn?t catch this part) or might appear on Izzy?s next solo record.

McKagan. "I think he wanted to come in, like, `Let's go out on tour right away! I've got eight songs, let's go! We'll do
some covers; Duff and I will sing!' [laughs] But Matt and Slash and I were more like, 'If we're gonna do this, we're gonna
have to do it so it's amazing.' I've heard a lot of fans saying, 'Why don't you have Izzy in the band now?' Well, this
isn't cut out for him; he's more of a guy who will be here one day and be gone the next, and you won't know where he's gone
to. But he added a new energy that we probably needed at that point."

"You have to understand our relationship with Izzy," Slash explains. "Izzy's always been the guy who's sort of there and
sort of not there. Duff and I have seen Izzy periodically; I've played on his records a couple of times, and Duff has done
the same thing. And then he called up right when we were in the midst of writing, and he actually came over and brought a
couple of songs with him. And then we just started hanging out and jamming, and we wrote, like, 10 or so songs. It was just
a lot of fun, but he didn't want to deal with the fuckin' long haul at all. As soon as we started to physically audition
singers, we didn't see him again." Slash laughs. "He's so fucking shattered from his experience [with Axl] that he refuses
to ever do anything involving a singer again!"

"The first CD that Slash gave me had a lot of music that Izzy had written with them, and it was a lot more classic-based,
" Weiland remembers. "I wasn't as excited about that stuff, you know? But when I got the next batch of songs, it was like,
`Okay, there's a handful of songs in here that I definitely feel I can wrap my head around.' And one of the riffs was the
'Set Me Free' riff. It reminded me of a cross between a classic STP thing and a classic GN'R track. I think it was a good
song for us to start with - not pushing the envelope too much. You couldn't come out with something too 'out there' or
people would be like, `This doesn't make sense!'"

He said with Guns as soon as he had an idea Slash would take hold of it and going chunka chunka with it (He said it like that ) and spit out a lot of aggressive riffs

But Ju Ju Hounds sounds pretty different then the rest of his solo albums, especially 117 degrees and Ride On, they sound a lot more aggresive and raw... If you like songs like Dust N' Bones, You Ain't The First and Double Talkin' Jive you'll probably like 117 degrees and Ride On aswell. Songs like Methanol from 117 degrees sound like they're taken straight from UYI

Exactly. Listen the demo of Bad Obsession - it's a classic Stones-song, but the album version is quite heavier. If you listen to GN'R and Izzy records, you can tell how a GN'R song (i.e. YCBM, DTJ, Used to Love Her, Mr. Brownstone, Pretty Tied Up) could have sounded after Izzy had written them and before Slash heard them.

Axl was never really drugged up, and he seems to be getting along with Scott now that he's playing with VR, or else he wouldn't do it.
his problem seems to be dealing with Axl, he got fed up with his antics apparently, and he probably didn't want much to do with frontmen after that, for a while at least..

Methanol is a great song 

For me personally, I love hearing raw Izzy to see what influence he had on Guns.  Izzy Stradlin was the one who got me interested in the Rolling Stones - in fact GNR opened me up to many different kinds of music.  I have heard some of Duff's solo work as well, and it is also pretty different from GNR's music.

The only thing that Izzy disappoints me with is that he is too shy about his music.  I wish he was more aggressive in promoting it because it really is good stuff that a lot of people would like.

thanks for the interviews Dutch, I kind of uderstand now. However I wish that some fan could steal the 10 songs they wrote with Izzy and release a bootleg, hehehehe. That would be just amazing. I will try to get the 117 degrees and Ride on, I have heard that those two where a lot more into the kind of hard rock stuff. Thanks.

I have never heard the Illusions demos but I think it makes perfect sense that those songs that Izzy wrote turned out agressive thanks to slash. After all how would YCBM sound without slash ass kickin riffs?
