couldn't have said it better myself. little trust-fund babies trying to be "dangerous".? Roll Eyes

Seems I've missed this whole thing. Can you give me some examples of The Strokes trying to be dangerous?

The Strokes = other bands -> Bad Obsession.  Kiss

I wish more "current" bands could cover GN'R. Maybe we could get a GN'R tribute with all these "new" bands covering GN'R intead of those 80s bands trying to imitate GN'R's songs.

I think this is fake.  I just checked out The Strokes news archive at MTV.com that's credited for reporting this and I didn't see anything.

The Hives and The Vines are better, and The White Stripes rock ass.

The Strokes... They leave a lot to be desired.

I've said "the" too many times.

I'd like that as well, but I think GNR's time time to be recognized/cited/covered/paid respects to will probably come within the next generation of new acts.? In time, AFD era GNR will be lauded and hopefully, become influential to up and coming rock acts.? There's still quite a bit of "uncool " stigma surrounding the name, nothing that time won't take of though...

can anyone provide proof that this story is real? I wanted to send it to a couple of friends who love the Strokes but don't like GNR, but cannot find a record of it anywhere at www.mtv.com or on the net.

is this fake?

I think it is, I just checked MTV.com

It was found on a GnR rumours site and we all know that GnR rumors are a dime a dozen.  Probably someone just typed up this article and slapped an MTV credit on it.  Because this isn't on the MTV website.

To all you Strokes naysayers, do you remember a band called the Rolling Stones? Did you know that their lead singer was attending the London School of Economics before he wrote songs like Jumpin Jack Flash, Sympathy for the Devil, and Street Fighting Man?

This guy is the blueprint for every rock poser that ever lived (including Axl Rose) and his family was never hurting for money. You've either got it or you don't... which applies to both money and talent. One does not disqualify the other.

True, poverty brings about a desperation that can be very exciting in rock music. But there are plenty of poor people and druggies and other kinds of criminals who can't write a good riff, write a cool lyric, wear tight fitting leathers, or strut across a stage to save their dirty little tails.

If you want to call the Strokes overhyped, go ahead. I'll agree. But to say that they are too rich to cover November Rain, which isn't exactly a 'street' song, that's just silly.

EDIT: Since I apparently tipped the boat on this thing, I added emphasis to the parts of my post that discuss MORE than whether or not I like the Strokes.

Next person who goes on talking about The Strokes and how great/bad they are will get this one locked.  ok

I'm tired of repeating myself over and over and over again.

This still isn't the Megadeth, Metallica, The Strokes, Nirvana, Britney Spears or Vanilla Ice section. If your memory isn't that good, read the lines above the posts.

The Strokes are a so so band in my opinion, the thing with this cover is that the Strokes vocal simply doesn't have what it takes to do all the november rain diferent moods, he always sings like he is falling asleep during the middle of the song. Also I am not completly sure about this, but I don't remember a stroke song with anything that is not like the most lame guitar licks. I don't think those guys could actually play slash solos, so in my opinion they are probably going to make the crappiest cover in a while, I hope they prove me wrong though Wink

Never heard anything by the Strokes - and don't plan on changing that ok

Why would you be proud of ignorance??

U sad man - have u nothing better to do than follow me from thread to thread? Not listening to a certain band is a sign of ignorance now? - i know what type of music they play, don't like it and thus don't listen to them. Simple.

November...denied

it's just something IMO that you just leave alone, no Stairway or Smoke on the Water.
They are classics n' a band like The Strokes IMO shouldnt dare attempt at a song like November Rain!!!

Since nobody can prove this thing is true and many of you are interested in discussing other bands in this thread, I'll lock it.

No thread for you, next! Tongue
