They could just do a "short" guitar version. Kinda like the one on a GN'R bootlegs.

I don't understand why people are upset about bands covering GN'R. It just means that they like the songs.....

I Hear you Jarmo, and partly agree, but IMHO the covers of my fave band should generate a reaction. A positive one at that.

"Do yorself a favor and go find the originals"  ok

Of course nowdays it's easy to download the original even if you didn't like the cover, but I'd still prefer every GNR-cover to give the reaction "Whoa, that's a great song. I wonder what the original's like." instead of "Whoa, that sucks major ass. Why did they cover such a bad tune? I never wanna hear anything GNR-related!"

And naturally it doesn't matter with people who are familiar with the GNR catalogue, but for kids & people new to GNR.

I've never understood how I can be such a big fan of GNR when there are so many other GNR fans who are so narrow minded about different kinds of music. Why do we both like the same band so much? I guess it means GNR attracts some hugely different followings.

I'm definitely curious to hear the Strokes version of NR. Jarmo mentioned (and has posted -- http://www.heretodaygonetohell.com/audio.htm) the short demo versions of NR)... I have always preferred those to the album version.

It's taken many years for me to begin to appreciate the album version of NR, which I do more now than ever. But still, for a song that was supposed to prove their artistry, I hear too many obvious influences throughout the song (esp Layla and about 25 Elton John songs). So maybe an abridged, more guitar-based version would bring something interesting out of this song.

Who the fuck cares if they cover it. Good for them. Ive always wanted to see a band cover some gnr tunes and see how it comes out. Its no biggie. Old GNR already have thier place and history and a cover tune wont fuck it up....

That's kind of nice.  It seems like an impossible song to cover, but whatever.  The Strokes are still hipster darlings, it just gives GnR more cred.  Not like they needed it, but you know what I mean.

No problems here if they want to cover it, good for them...

Just do not release it as a single, keep it an album track or better yet, a b-side.

So when exactly DID Avril get that sex-change operation?  Roll Eyes

I don't really care if they will release it as a single or b-side and it's no big thing if they are going to cover November Rain. I mean we are talking about The Strokes here..but good for them if it will turn to be great cover and if they will fuck it up, it doesn't still bother me too much..again, we are talkin about The Strokes here. I guess they are way much better on live than on a record.

the idea of the strokes is scary just like when i heard sheryl crow was gonna cover sweet child, I still cant stand listening to the crow version

My thoughts exactly. I wonder if hardcore fans of Bob Dylan or Paul Mcartney feel the same way about GNR...

Can`t say I know more than 1 or 2 sings by those guys.

If they cover November Rain it would be a first. It could be really cool or really awful.

But you have to give respect to them for covering GNR, it shows some of the newer bands great music is timeless.

Ha-ha, ccorn69, I sometimes wonder what die-hard Bob Dylan fans thought of the GNR version.? Undecided

I've never understood how I can be such a big fan of GNR when there are so many other GNR fans who are so narrow minded about different kinds of music. Why do we both like the same band so much?

Oh, yeah? I can understand easy why you can be such a big fan of GNR.? Cool
What I?ve never understood is how anyone so narrow minded about different kinds of music can be a big fan of GNR.

Saying that, I have no idea about The Strokes.? Embarrassed If they?re so different in style, it should be interesting to hear their version of NR.?
Even if it sucks, what?s the big deal?
After all, it?s not GNR covering The Strokes. peace
