Strokes Smell Roses In November

The New York band, The Strokes, have announced plans to recreate Guns ?N? Roses? "November Rain", which will be on their next album.

Singer Julian Casablancas said "GNR is a big influence on our music and we just wanted to show that by doing one of their most complex songs." He also went on to say that the band wanted to do this song for years, but wanted to establish themselves with their own music first.

"I don't think, until the past year, people expected us to do covers. We did "Clampdown", we did "Salty Salute", and since both of those were well received we just said ?Fuck it, we're gonna do this.' So now we're working on it and we'll see how it goes", says Albert Hammond, guitarist.

The new album has been said by the Strokes to be different from their first two (2001's Is This It and 2003's Room On Fire). The band has also come off a huge tour and some events, including the V festivals in England this past weekend, and Little Stevens International Underground Garage Festival on August 14th.

The next album, which has no title yet, should be expected early 2005. The bands next single, "The End Has No End", should be out later this month.

I don't know...they're gonna have to cut a lot out...you don't want to spend 9 minutes of your album on a cover song.  I'd say they'll probably just do it a bit faster, just guitar.  It'll have to be a complete re-invention, so it looks to be interesting.  But I think the Strokes should cover "You're Crazy" or "Nice Boys" or something like that.

I am not a fan of the strokes. I hear them on the radio alot and can't picture them doing this song any justice.

The Strokes are good for about 2 tracks, *is this it* and *trying your luck*? ok

...as for November Rain, well i can't imagine for one minute how it would sound performed by them. Interesting for sure, but no where near as good as the original? Wink

If it's true, I don't really see that coming to any good  Undecided   Such different styles...... Maybe a shorter and harder song could have worked, but November Rain is a weird choice to say the least.
Besides, I would never have guessed The Strokes were influenced by GN'R  confused

The funny thing is if you believe the press, The Strokes and the new wave of "the" bands are supposed to be the antithesis of "pompous" and "overproduced" rock (sic) like November Rain  hihi

The whole anti GN'R thing is over. It's 2004, not 1994, and a new band like the Strokes giving props to GN'R just confirms that they are getting back into the good graces of the music community. No one gives a shit about Smashing Pumpkins or Bush anymore, or any of that anti-GN'R jazz.

I'm talking about the press, not what the bands say. Still recently, I've seen magazines opposing that new wave to what they called pompous rock, and they cited GN'R.
But Julian Casablancas saying that proves once again that music journalists have no idea what they're talking about.  Tongue

I wonder if it will be the entire song or if they'll do a video for it.
