Okay, so Def Leppard released Hysteria in 1987 and Guns N' Roses released Appetite for Destruction that same year as well.

So, I was wondering what people thought as to what the better album is?

I like Appetite for Destruction just for the fact that I dig G'NR more than I dig Def Leppard.

I love the first four Def Leppard albums, they rock. After Steve Clarke died, however, the band should have called it quits.

I'll "admit it" whatever that means. Def Leppard did a lot more (and still is doing) than Guns has as a band. (Read: As a band, before you cry babies get all upset and write a novel explaining to me how much better AFD is then Hysteria hihi)

Hysteria was one of their best albums I think. I have seen them live 3 times in the last 4 years and they keep getting better every single time. They put on such great shows and really appreciate their audience.

Unlike other bands.... Undecided

I personally can not compare the two bands. They are both great, but IMO two different types of rock n roll.

Well, Appetite For Destruction was really a reaction against Def Leppard kind of pop-metal.  Where Def Leppard spent years in the studio perfecting their crafty pop-rock with elaborate production techniques, Guns N' Roses stumbled into an L.A. studio and roared through their screaming punk-metal in one or two takes per song (oh, the irony....).  They're both great albums - I haven't been able to stop listening to Hysteria this summer - but two very different animals.

I'll have to agree with Skeletor, though - I don't see too many people on a Guns N' Roses message board saying they prefer a Def Leppard album to GN'R's grand statement.  Unless you find somebody who frequents a lot of different message boards.

The first two Def Leppard albums were not huge mutli layered produced monsters. They were in the vien of AC/DC and Judas Priest. Starting with Pyromania they really got their sound and it continued with Hsyteria.

I think it is funny how I prefer Hysteria over AFD...

Get over it people! Def Leppard are a great band...

Hysteria spawned 7 singles....

7 singles of the 12 songs made the top 100

"Women" being the loser at #93 in the U.S.

Hysteria I think is in the top 5 best selling albums in rock history.

yeah but you're forgetting about longeivity. AFD is one of those albums that still and always will be mentioned in the pantheon of the greatest albums ever. Hysteria is def not. And if you ask casual fans of music if they heard wttj, scom, PC they have. Same can't be said about the entire def leppard catelogue.

Well I listen to Hysteria a lot more - is it better? Not sure, like i said i listen to it more - draw whatever you will from that.

Its a fantastic album - okay its in a very 80's style but i love 80's rock and i ain't gonna apolagise i was listening to Hysteria before i was listening to GNR - and i was 8 when i first heard gnr.

Ps. on a GNR board this is a bizzare thread...
