Does anyone else hear like Warrant?  To me, the first time I saw the video for "Heaven", I was so appalled by how lame it looked I had to turn off the TV.  They seemed like a boy band with guitars - pretty boys singing some sappy ballad with teen-pop lyrics.  That was a long time ago.  As time went on, I got more and more into pop-metal, and eventually hair-metal.  But Warrant still seemed a little too...boy bandish for me to like them.  I saw the video for "Cherry Pie", and I thought, "I can't identify with those guys."  But the song got stuck into my head, and I started liking it, then loving it.  Having bought a Poison album and found myself ok with it, I decided to give Warrant a try and bought their greatest hits, although by this time I figured it would be pretty good.

And it WAS.  I like "Heaven" now, but the really amazing thing was "I Saw Red", the acoustic version.  That totally broke the mold of Warrant for me and made me see just how talented a songwriter Jani Lane really is.  It's just so emotional, delicate, and well-written, you get the sense that these guys are totally unappreciated.  After hearing "Down Boys", "Mr. Rainmaker", "Uncle Tom's Cabin", and a whole bunch of others, I can now say that I really love Warrant, and see them for the great, underrated rock band that they were.

I was wondering if anybody else felt the same way.  Warrant always seemed like the breaking point between pop-metal and pop - kind of like Poison.  But having actually LISTENED to both bands, I can safely say that both are really great rock 'n' roll bands, at least to me.

first three warrant records are fan fuckin tastic, i bought one more after that i cant remember the name but it sucked

the first three are awesome, my fav is dog eat dog the song "the bitter pill" has a big opera in the middle, it is awesome, download the bitter pill and andy warhol was right u will be fucking hooked,

jani lane has one of the best voices ever

yes they changed members around a whole lot, jani lane is the one consistent force i know of he writes all the songs though by himself, he is very very talented

songs i recommend u download "the dirt" to get u started, if u like go buy their first 3 cd's u will love em

They are okay.  I saw them live back in August.  As has been mentioned, they're not even the same band anymore.  I think the original drummer is left along with Jani Lane.  I could be wrong though.

Jani can still sing, though he looks ridiculous now.  He shaved his head and really let himself go on the fast food after Warrant's heydey ended.

Jani is very bloated right now and looks rather pathetic, sad to say. I mean he looked like shit in the pics I saw of him. You could barely tell he's the same guy. He makes Vince Neil look like Mr. Goodbody!

try these for starters, they are great!

For starters?  You've got enough songs on there to make up an entire album.  But I digress...I would suggest just buying the greatest hits for starters, because then you can get their best and decide whether or not you like them.  Besides, from what I hear, a lot of the hair bands of the 80s that are less well-known today had a lot of filler on their albums.  Don't know if that's true, but I'm just telling you what I think I heard.  But IMHO, buying the greatest hits is worth it just for the acoustic version of "I Saw Red", which is better than the original.  It's more simple, sparse, and directly emotional that way - you forgot all about Warrant being a "hair band" and just hear a great song.

I heard "Machine Gun" and "Hole in the Wall" from their Dog days on the best-of, and they're good, but I don't like them as much as their hair band stuff.  I don't know, but they don't seem to have the same power as Bon Jovi to make darker music and still be great (I mean, These Days is my favourite BJ album).  Still, D, you obviously think it's great, so maybe I'll give it a try.

dog eat dog is a cd where every song is good in its own right, download "the bitter pill" and "let it rain" off of dog eat dog, machine gun and hole in my wall are probably the two weakest songs on the whole cd in all honesty

on DRFSR and cherry pie cd's there is tons of filler in my opinion but on dog eat dog every song is pretty good especially the ones ive mentioned april 2031 is a post nuclear holocaust song that is very strange but great
andy warhol was right is great and u have to hear the bitter pill and let it rain even if u download them

Fat Boys' early stuff as Tribe 3 is real good. You should download that. They just got too mainstream with the duet with Chubby Checkers and the Beach Boys

I really liked Warrant when I was growing up.  
The last I heard, Jani Lane had opened up his own restaurant in Ohio.  I wonder if it's still open.  I don't know, maybe I dreamt the whole thing.  Does anyone else know anything about that?

I know a guy who is friends with Jani and he is in Ohio last i heard, Cincinnati i think.  As for the restaurant thing, i have no idea.

There's alot about him on Metal Sludge (including a couple of interviews) but from what I've heard you should take that (metal sludge) with a grain of salt. According to them he's a major alcoholic.

Yeah, I admit it, I like them. There such an easy target. Their music and image just oozes cheese. I mean the matching white leather suits in the "Heaven" video is about the gayest "metal" moment in MTV history.

Still, I think that they were one of the best rock bands of that genre and era.  Jani Lane is still a great songwriter and there music did have undeniable hooks. I'm rockin out to Dirty Rotten Stinking Filthy Rich as I write this.

As far as hair metal goes...they're alright.

Uncle Tom's Cabin is definitely a cool song...I like Cherry Pie and Train Train as well.
