I am a massive STP fan, but I gotta say, I think Contraband is better than anything STP ever put out.

Not surprsingly, 'cause Slash doesn't play on any STP album.  Grin

I wonder what the views of other HUGE STP fans are. I was not a huge fan but liked them alot. Enough to have seen them twice in comcert and buy 3 of their CD's anyway. I think I like Contraband better than their stuff. But CORE was definately pretty damn classic.

Contraband is a much better complete album than anything STP ever released however No song on it is as good as some of the STP classics.

I think the great songs on Contraband are up their with STP's classics:

Big Machine
Set Me Free
YGNR
Slither
LTA

The other songs are all solid. With STP, there were about five great songs per disc, and a bunch of solid ones (not fillers) but solid.

well I meant that for me personally. And in no way was I knocking contraband which I feel doesn't get nearly enough credit on this board. I just meant certain songs STP had were just to me better but they never made an album as good as contraband. I loved STP but I thought they sometimes had filler songs which contraband doesn't. Anyone think theres a chance or VR doin 'trippin on a hole in a paper heart in concert? lol I would love that. Also I would love to hear slash do the solo for lady picture show, I bet he would fuckin wail on it.

STP's "Purple" is far superior to the somewhat mediocre "Contraband" in my opionion.  Classics like Vasoline, Interstate love song, still remains, pretty penny etc. all beat the pants off of Contraband's onslaught of sound-alikes.  Purple has so much variety and catchy unique songs that its not hard to see which one is better.  I like Contraband...but it just doesn't stand out, seems pretty mediocre and flat to me (let the flames begin) nervous

No flames, but I don't agree. I like Purple a lot, but I think Contraband is a stronger album.

As a HUGE STP fan, i'd have to say Core, for me at least, is their weakest album.  With that said, i do enjoy it greatly regardless.  But i'd have to say I think the 5 unreleased STP songs posted on BelowEmpty.com are better than anything VR has done, with possibly the exception of YGNR.

I like Contraband a lot, but they have a long way to go before they top STP or Gn'r for me.

no way!!! I will admit "You Can't drive me away" is amazing but none of those other unreleased STP songs come close to VR!
