For Me:

2002- NIN- The Downward Spiral- Not a happy time in my life.

That was released in 1994. It's on my list, I just have to finish...

I know that. And Sgt. Pepper was not released in 1996. My list was not what my favorite album that was released in that year, although it could be the same. My list was, on any given year, what album meant the most to me.

My list is composed like Nixon's, the albums weren't necessarily released that year:

1991 - GnFnRs - Use Your Illusion I & II
1992 - Metallica - Metallica
1993 - Red Hot Chili Peppers - BloodSugarSexMagik
1994 - Crash Test Dummies - God Shuffled His Feet
1995 - Paradise Lost - Draconian Times
1996 - Rage Against The Machine - Rage Against The Machine
1997 - Arcturus - La Masquerade Infernale
1998 - Type O Negative - October Rust
1999 - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - The Best Of
2000 - Tom Waits - Beautiful Maladies
2001 - A Perfect Circle - Mer De Noms
2002 - The Strokes - Is This It
Summer of 2003 - Pain of Salvation - Remedy Lane
Fall of 2003 - Chris Cornell - Euphoria Morning
2004 - Jeff Buckley - Grace

I could go into stories behind each pick, but most are too personal so I'll skip that..
