Wouldn`t put much faith in that article. Its not like it was Rolling Stone or a a more credible source. Was just some music journalist who wrote it. He probrally knows a lot less about GNR than we do, since only the hardcore fans have any idea the state of affairs in the world of GNR. He probrally assumed Brain was no longer in GNR because they have not been in the media  since the `02 tour meltdown.   smoking

Brain is still with gnr
There you have it folks! Thanks Mysteron

I hate this word ... "still" ...

Chill

It's an Irish journal who have clearly not even spoken to Brain? hihi

no no
I?m not saying just because you said that

"he?s still recording vocals..."
"they?re still put some final touches..."
"yes, I?m still in GNR..."

do you think tommy?s answer averytime is "yes, I?m STILL in GNR..." ?
"I?m in GNR" is so much better

some sentences to me seams that anytime robin, tommy, brain ... could get away, I don?t know why anymore  confused

I think I?m fucked up.

Why would you say he's out of gnr? He is just worked on the cd. I believe he has worked with Tom before. They all are working on other things. They do have to make a pay check, you know. By the way check out the Tom waites cd. I have some of his stuff. He's really cool.

I wouldn't call Rolling Stone a 'credible source'.

Madison posted this to anyone that cares

I don't like to bother Merck very often about rumors, but the rumor about Brain leaving seemed to be taking on a life of its own. So I contacted him, and he confirmed that Brain is still in GNR.
Here's his reply:

"Brain is putting percussion on the album as I write. It is correct that he has played on Tom Waits album in his spare time but GN'R is his priority."

... "as I write"??
So much for a nov. album release...if the record is not even done in august, there's no way it can be released in nov. 2004.

It could still be out.

This is a bad example but on the last blink 182 album they did the percussion very quickly and it was released about 2 and a half months later I think.

Yeah technically it could, but I don't have a feeling it will be out. When I'm talking about Brain and the percussion part, I'm basically saying it could mean some other band member could need to go back and lay down some bass or guitar tracks or whatever...then they need to master the CD, send it to a CD-making plant, prepare everything for the promotion, etc.

It wouldn't surprise me if they were planning this while band members were tweaking things.

Percussion is different to drumming.. he could be adding weird stuff.. like cannons.

Don't forget about the mixing of the album.  That very well could be a long and arduous process.

You can add percussion to a track as a part of the mixing process, i.e, "I like the sound and the levels here, but can we throw a garbage-truck-backing-up-type-beeping between those two drumbeats?"
You could during mixing just before mixing down.  I do this type of thing with commercials, usually as the final step before mixing down and saving a master.

Yeah, I kinda assumed the mixing process was done for a good amount of tracks already, but you never know. I guessed they could have already mixed a few tracks and do some tweakings on different tracks.
