A California lawyer has filed a potential class action lawsuit against the internet search company Yahoo.
Stephen Galton says he was subject to a "barrage of harassing, defamatory and abusive messages" from anonymous users on a Yahoo message board.

Yup, that is yahoos fault?  This lawsuit shit is a problem here in America.  I wonder if the poll numbers get down, if Edwards will drop out and take up this case?

Lawsuits and lawyers are ruining america, not corporations.

he's suing cos his feelings were hurt?  rofl  I wonder if he could win though by claiming the board was supposed to be moderated and it wasnt.

But this doesnt beat the case where an old woman sued McDonalds because it didnt warn her that her coffee was hot.

Start with : Loser pays. That is: You have to pay the legal fees if you bring a suit against somebody and loose.

And that will end the lawsuit bullshit in this country real quick.

There is another lawsuit by a baby company (toys etc) that is named googles. They are suing google. They couldn't really give a reason, but it was along the lines of "it confuses our customer base when they type in google (leaving off the s by accident) and get a search machine." Uh...whatever.

Don't get me started on lawyers.  I face these snakes day in and day out.

Somebody recently sued the company that makes Pediolite.  That's the liquid that you give children if they are throwing up alot and are becoming dehydrated.  The liquid puts nutrients back into the child.  Some "tool" sued that company because their child threw up after drinking it and the puke stained the carpet.

Instead of having to pay humongous legal fees, the company settled and paid for new carpeting.

What we need are judges that laugh at stupid cases and dissmiss them with a fine!  ok

Now I'm thinking that I could be making some cash here - it just doesn't cross my mind to sue for most of the shit that people are suing for....  My son thru up after drinking Gatorade and it stained my carpet - hmmmmm

Everything Louder Than Everything Else

Can't a judge just throw this kinda stuff out?  Don't they have the power to do things like that?

Surely they can just tell retarded people to fuck off and get job rather than making ridiculous claims.

Miz, sometimes they can, and sometimes the can't. Sometimes they will and sometimes they won't.

I remember seeing on 20/20 about a lawyer who sued everybody for not having their businesses up to par on the handicap front. Bathrooms, ramps, special this, special that. He'd sue anybody he could, most of it was pretty outrageous. When 20/20 went to interview this asshole they realized that this lawyers office didn't comply with any of the handicap regulations either. The fucking guy was suing people for this, but at the same time broke every single law at the same time.

There are so many law suites, it's insane.

I got hit by a car walking down the street once. It fucked my leg up. I couldn't walk for a good week, however nothing was broken. It was just swollen really really bad. Everybody was telling me to sue. I could not, it was not in my nature.

I had a stupd ass lady (with a cell phone and in an SUV-don't get me started) run into the back of me at a stop light just yesterday. Complete idiot not paying attention. Now I already am against jackasses driving big suv's and talking on the phone. So you think I would have wanted to go off on her. I pulled over and saw no real damage to my car. Maybe a little scratch on the bumper. I just said "don't worry about it." Really, it wasn't worth the hassle. Now, sooooo many other people in this country would have been all over that scenerio. They would have had a lawyer involved and said they had neck pain, their back hurt etc etc. Total bullshit, anything for a buck. I realize this, but it comes down to what kind of person you are. I could not go to sleep feeling good about myself for suing that lady and her insurance company over some bullshit. Just to get money...that ain't me.

Go read: The case against lawyers. It talks all about this crap and how lawyers abuse the system. It was written by a lawyer.

My brother is a lawyer and so is my best friend. So it's hard to hate them all. There are bad apples in every group of people.

I can't stand this kind of crap.

There is a specific strain of Americans who are constantly "victimized" and who continually abuse our justice system like this.  It's so frustrating.   It's the same people that sue McDonalds for making them fat, etc etc.  I think the issue is very political, and you can guess who I blame for this kind of crap, but nevertheless, conversative or liberal, I think most of us agree it's complete garbage.

"democracy" is a loose term now-a-days. Not what is was originally.

Loser pays sounds fair but it's not.  Of course the cases that you read about in the news are going to be bullshit like the ones mentioned in this thread.  But the vast majority of the time, they are legitimate.

Let's say a poor family's child suffers a serious injury from a major company's defective product.  The family hires a local, incompetent lawyer while the big company hires the Dream Team of lawyers, racking up bills at a ridiculous rate.  It would be very harsh to be stuck with that legal bill if your lawyer loses the case for you.
