This is by no means a bash to either band, GNR or VR!

So that said, here's my suggestion:

Do you think Axl is also waiting to release CD because of VR is in the spotlights right now? I think he doesn't want to make the competition, that the media is gonna create, bigger then necessary. Because that's what will happen if they release material at the same time, the press will make it into one big competition. And they will both be very much anoyed by it. It will probably hurt to much on both sides, creating awkward situations.

So I think he will wait untill VR is beyond the big hype of their debut album. Then he can do his thing without being confronted and compared to VR to full extent. I know it will happen anyway but if they aren't in each other's way it will be at lot less.

I know there are probably a million reasons why we haven't got CD yet, but I do think that this has also something to do with it. What do you guys think of this?

I think that's a good point but I see Axl of more of a person who dosen't give a fuck about the competition.

I don't think he give's a shit about the competition itself, because he knows it will take place. But I do think he knows it could get so big it could overshadow the thing he worked for so hard the last 10 years , Chinese Democracy. Because that's what will happen, the music will get in the 2nd place and the competition "who's the best" will be the thing everybody will focus on. It could be like a soap opera, and I think that's the last he thing wants to happen.

FOr the most part the VR buzz/hype has faded/died down. By the time Axl releases it the spotlight will be on GNR. Actually either way teh spotlight will be on GNR when things get going. So it doesnt matter.

Well I think that if he is really waiting for VR to calm down, then he'll find any reason to wait. I doubt he cares much about VR though.

In some magazine Slash said Axl had attempted to release the album in a couple of weeks time after Contra. So assuming that he or the interviewer was not bullshitting, Axl didn?t mind to full extent being confronted and compared to VR.

I guess if it actually took place, both albums would have sold like hell as ppl love soap opera.
And which album would run longer was pretty obvious IMO. Wink

I don't think the VR hype is about to die down any time soon.? Fall To Pieces is going to be huge on mainstream radio.

I don't think Axl would ever admit to feeding off of VR's hype or waiting for it to subside but I'm sure the record company is.

Regardless he'll do fine to release CD in the last quarter of the year.? If he waits any longer than that........who knows??

If Axl feels it's one of the greatest records ever made........than I don't think the timing matters to him at all.

I'll agree with the general sense here and say Axl probaly doesn't care to much about VR...he knows the spotlight will be him when this is ever releases because of the myth around him and it.

However he might be concerned with:

--The legal issues continually hounding the band from numerous sources, including CC and his former bandmates.

-- The predisposition of some, if not many, in the press to treat him and his project negatively ( listen to some of the rants he's had, and it's pretty obvious that this is a guy who does read his clippings).

-- An inability to find promotional backing for a tour either here or in Europe ( guess we'll know more about this soon)

FTP won't be huge. It lacks the hook.

With "Slither" still number 1 on the mainstream rock chart and top 5 on the modern rock chart,
let's hope Axl not waiting for the VR momentum to slow down.  FTP hasn't even been released yet and it's already on every rock heavyweights playlist just waiting for Slither to finally
die down and take on a life of it's own.

Let's hope Axl's not waiting (which I doubt he gives a rats ass) but if he is, it might be a long wait.  With a new American tour supposedly in the works for the fall, Contraband is likely to have some long legs and make a nice run into 2005 and beyond.

Falcon, where do you get this American tour in the works for the fall I thought it was European?  Anyway every year someone is looking for an excuse for the album not to come out.  People saying well I think it will come out when VR puts theres out because of the competition.  Now its oh wait he'll put it out when VR dies down.  Everyone knows why it's not out, because Axl wants it perfected in his own mind and as "democratic" as possible.

yeah...what about all the years before Contraband? what was holding it back then? Snakepit? Izzy?
if it is "holding it back" it would be nothing more than another excuse not to release it.

On the contrary - surely he would want to release it now to go one-up on his former 'friends'? - its pretty obvious CD will sell more and its the kind of vindictive thing Axl would do.

You really, really, really hate VR, don't you?

Anyway, it's impossible to guess what Axl is thinking. I always thought that he would also regret it a little that the original line-up didn't work out, bit reading some comments above, he couldn't care less. Too bad though, so they will never, ever play again........

The hype has pretty much died down. But it may come back when VR release their new single and start touring again. So if CD comes out in November the second part of VR's hype may have died down again and CD will be alright for release.

If Axl released the album they would blow VR away because everyone knows GNR can sell more albums

I think it would have been a better idea for Axl to release CD at around the same time as Contraband to create some positive hype.  The media would have billed it as a battle between slash and Axl and it would have generated a huge amount of attention.
