Izzy has some cool tunes on both his album that i have...117degrees,and ju ju hounds....both albums are not great but both are solid albums with diversity and both have a few geat tunes on them...after reading some tommy reviews, i thought his album would be kind of similar...not mainstream radio type songs but great slow tempo chilling songs...with a few rockers...is izzy's solo work comparable to tommy's? a better listen than the snakepits?

Tommy's record sounds much like his old band, the Replacements. A lot like Soul Asylum or a lesser known band, The Nixons.
It's roots definately were bourne out the Minneapolis Pop/Punk scene of the late 80's early 90's.

(First of all, I've only heard three of Tommy's songs: Motivation, Something's Wrong, Without a View, so my opinion on his record is incomplete.)
Like the other guy said, Tommy's sound is closer to the 80s post-punk/alt.
Izzy, meanwhile, is clearly more of a Stones/Faces disciple (despite his anachronistic flirtations with reggae -- which was as arbitrary as Axl's decision to make GNR more 'modern').
Neither of them has a-list stuff for their respective genres... you're much better off listening to Husker Du, the Replacements, or even the Jayhawks or Uncle Tupelo if you want the best of what Tommy's trying to do. Whereas Izzy's sound has clearly already been perfected by numerous bands, beginning with the Stones, the Faces, Bad Finger, Aerosmith and, dare it be said, his very own Guns N' Roses, to name just a few.
Still, they are both very well versed at what they do, and thanks to that, and some amazing talent, their material will never be anything worse than average, and sometimes it will be excellent. But it will probably not be thrilling over the long haul, the way the originals were.
(On a side note, I'd probably buy an Izzy anthology if one was available... he's had 3 or 4 killer tracks on every album I've heard.)?

Tommy's influences over the years are obviously what they are.....but not necessarily present here.
The company he keeps now is the AltCountry/SingerSongWriter NYC scene. This isn't "alt country" per se, however very much akin to Paul Westerberg solo, Jesse Malin solo, etc......ie: GOOD stuff.
