I've recently become a GN'R fan since the Greatest Hits album came out, and I was wondering about the rumor of the CD release.  Have their been a lot of rumors in the past about a release date?  I mean...like a year ago was there a rumor that it would come out at the beginning of 2004?  Have the rumors been as big as the ones we hear now?  Thanks

Rumors have come and gone since 1996, when Duff said an album would be out in Spring 1997, but there have only been 2 instances to my knowledge where there was a real strong indication that Chinese Democracy was close to being released. The first was following the band's reemergence in 2002, where record chains had the album listed as being released on December 3, 2002. Apprently, some chains even had ads for it in their promo flyers that week! The second instance is now, where we heard rumors about Nov. early in the summer from some message boards, only to be announced on Vh1, which got the info from Geffen and Management. Management denies the date as of now, but with an *apparent* European tour being booked, it is getting harder to deny something is up. People have pointed at statements from band members and Axl in all other years as evidence that the album was just around the corner, but in all those instances, there was never a concrete date stated by  said members, just guestimates ('soon', 'the end of the year,' etc.) . So, to the best of my knowledge, this one and the 02 one have been the most accurate-sounding.

Yeah, there have been a lot of rumors of it coming out but not many realistic ones. I mean last December some anonymous person came on and said something about a March 2004 release and it never happened.

Yeah, the wait is pretty damn excruciating. But I'm totally confident that we'll all be rewarded for our "patience" so to speak, when the album finally is released.

perhaps that was geffen's plan? get more people into gnr early in the year and later that year force a CD release? i dunno.. could be possible.
