Well we all know that Knockin' On Heaven's Door was played regulary during the AFD era so it was an obvious choice to record for the Use Your Illusion albums..

But I was wondering how the idea to record Live & Let Die came about.. I don't believe they had ever played it live before the Illusion warm up gigs.. whose idea was it?

I remember Axl said somewhere that the band always wanted to record this song because it's like the WTTJ two.

Sorry to change the subject of the topic, but does anybody know where can I find the alt lyrics version of KOHD (the lyrics)?

Back on topic... I do prefer Live and let Die and KOHD with GNR than the original ones... not like some TSI covers. These two covers are perfect IMO.

Slash: It's one of those songs, that Axl and I have always loved. It's always been a really heavy song, but we'd never discussed it, and didn't know that we each liked it. We were talking one night about a cover song and that came up, and we're like, "Yeah! Let's do it!" So I went to rehearsal with Izzy and Matt and Duff, just to see whether we could sound good playing it, and it sounded really heavy.

Axl: I thought about it once a long time ago, but I just thought, we'd never be able to get that the way it sounds - just done that well. But then I was watching - I had rented the movie, and I was watching it, and I just went 'this song sounds like Welcome To The Jungle 2'. So... it just felt right, so we ended up playing a little bit in rehearsal, and it started working, and now that we've actually gone and started recording it, we're finding out that... 'wait, we are good enough to play this song' - we didn't think we were. We didn't think we were good enough to get it down right. But Slash is doing most of the string arrangements on his guitar with a harmonizer.

I always liked the stripped down version they did-like the MTV awards in 91 or 92? from Wembley stadium-the version with the horns, backup singers, I didn't care for, as well as the version they recorded for Use Your Illusion.

 Shocked no

Love the song, always have. The way it starts on the album with Axl's stunning vocals got me into it right away.  Cool yes

One of my least favorite gnr tunes... i hope they drop it from the live show as well as knocking on heavens door.... no need to hide behind covers with such awesome originals

I have to agree there

It just sounds....wrong, as if the timing's off, the original is far better, can't quite put my finger on whats wrong with it but there's no real flow.

Not accurate but:

Mama put my guns in the ground
[It wasn't their fault]
I can't shoot them anymore
[How were they even supposed to know?]
That cold black cloud is comin' down
[All things can be a real good time]
Feels like I'm knockin' on heaven's door
[What, why do they screwin' us (?)]

"YOU JUST BETTER START SNIFFIN' YOUR OWN RANK
SUBJUGATION JACK 'CAUSE IT'S JUST
YOU AGAINST YOUR TATTERED LIBIDO, THE BANK AND
THE MORTICIAN, FOREVER MAN AND IT WOULDN'T BE
LUCK IF YOU COULD GET OUT OF LIFE ALIVE"

I always thought it was "All things could be HEALED with time"..not sure though, they're kinda buried in the mix..and the 4th line "What..." is totally undeciphrable...I always thought the alt. version was pretty cool though..much like the "edit" version on the Wal-Mart version of UYI...the one with tracks from both CDs...the edit has the phone call edited out, so its different, but it still works somehow.

The new stripped down version of KOHD they played at RIR3 was great, showing how the new band could make and play it as their own.

I'm pretty sure it's "All things can be healed in time" and "Why?  Why would they do it?"

I like LALD, and I can see the relation to WTTJ...it's the survival philosophy when one lives in a jungle, urban or otherwise...Live and Let Die, 'cause if you let a threat survive, it'll come back and bite you on the ass.

I like My World. Like I like spicy food for a change.
My world is very fit to firm up the album tersely.
Actually, I listen to it more often than many old GNR songs and covers.
