My dad was driving me to my new job 2day and my dad played Sweet Home Alamba and GN'R just popped in my head the old line up though I just imagined Axl singing it (yes I know strange guys from LA singing about albama) and I just pictured Slash just play it on guitar in his bluesy way like a bluesy solo and Axl brill voice I just wanted to share it would have been cool to hear it if they done it are well can only imagine would you like to hear it?

I couldn't picture it happening.Lynyrd skynyrd are southern rock and GN'R are Rock n Roll thats not the reason though Sweet Home Alabama is a southern song and I just couldn't see a bunch o L.A boys doing it just wouldn't be right Axl doesn't have the kind of voice for that song. I can kind of see slash playing but not really because those are two different guitar styles.I could see maybe a GN'R version of free bird now that would be awesome.

i forgot the band, but Sweet Home Alabama was covered by a band from LA. hey changed some of the lyrics, and renamed it Sweet Home California, it sounds good, and is really close to the original.

John Fogerty wrote many songs about the swamps of the south and the bayoues and he was from California and never been there when he wrote those songs, so its not to hard to picture

Speaking of covers, anyone think there might be one included on Chinese Democracy?

That band would be Zen Mafia.

It wasn't actually a cover, it was different lyrically with a similar chorus, replacing "Alabama" with "California".

Backing vox were supplied by Ian Astbury..

Back on topic, can't see GNR doing that song..

I heard Axl bought a bunch of tapes before recording AFD.  Skynyrd was one of the tapes he bought.  Axl wanted to get some warmth in the songs so he used the tape as an example of how to do it.  Not sure if it is true but I read it some where a while back.

That's what I thought when I thought about them covering a Skynrd song.  A Guns cover of Freebird would be great.

I hope there are no cover songs on CD - but I wouldn't mind them playing some when (if) they go on tour as a change to LALD/KOHD.

I read somewhere that the old band planned to play Achilles Last Stand by Led Zep but they never did for some reason - it would be cool to play that on tour I think? Cool
