Real men use fists!

« on: July 20, 2004, 02:05:05 PM »

I was talking about this over dinner last night, and I am curious how the rest of you feel about it.

There are so many things we look forward to in our lives. Chinese D, even though it is only a materialistic thing, certaintly ranks right up there for a lot of us.

We have waited so long for it, fantasized what it will sound like, opening up the plastic covering, and opening it up for the first time. Pressing the play button, and actually hearing it, and under the conditions we have imagined ourselves having as the atmosphere for the grand moment of the first real listen.

But once the smoke settles, and we have listened to it, for the upteenth time, and the energy rebalances itself, and we come back down to earth...

Let me tell you. Its no small secret Im a Star Wars fan. The one movie I have waited for since I was a little shit, is the movie coming out in May 2005. What preceded it, as any fan knows only served to set up the events happening in Episode 3. Its really, the only thing I can think of that relates closer to the feeling I have, and the anticipation, for Chinese Democracy (CD). I am sure many of you have your own personal things that you can relate to the anticipation for CD.

Here's where the main point comes in. Sometimes, many a times, the road that leads to the actual destiniation, is one we grow so comfortable in, that when we get that in which we waited so long for, there is inevitably a void.

This void, is one thing that makes us human, and makes us yearn for the next thing, to fill this void. We will be so excited to finally FINALLY have CD. That will be so fucking great words will not do the feelings justice.

But, the wait will be over. The wait, has been this crazy fucking thrill ride too. Lots of ups and downs. But it will all culminate to the prize that will undoubtably satisfy us all.

What Im getting at, is that once its all over, its going to feel fucking strange. Really, put yourself in the state of mind, and envision once the smoke settles. We will come here and have some great fucking conversations about CD. I am greatly looking forward to talking to you all about it.

But it (this point in time), is going to feel a little strange. You guys feel me?

Sincerely, don't get too exited because it is very likely that you will NOT see the album in November. I don't want to break your dream, but for me, there will be nothing before 2005. Tommy will be on tour until october, the album is NOT totally finished yet (mixing process), it has NOT been printed yet etc...
You know, only the promotion takes several month before an album is released. and for the momment, there is nothing.
really guys, don't be too exited for November.

Well, it's probably going to come out eventually, and the effect will be the same. This will be a lot like the wait for the Illusions. I can remember imagining what UYI would sound like for a good 2 years. Then it was sort of weird once I finally had them. The romance of your imagination is replaced by actual songs, which may or may not live up to your vague, interstellar expectations. Then after awhile you reapproach the music for the first time, again. Some of us won't really know what to make of CD until we've had it for a year or two. I'm one of those people.

Well said Johnny. I think I am kind of like that too.

...and I never did say anything about the November rumor (though I am starting to get very hopeful with each passing peace of evidence (BTM, Google search and whatnot)).

It's like Christmas, sometimes the waiting is the best part, I just hope after waiting this long that the album is as good as we all expect it to be.  I don't know how I'd handle that let down, but, I have faith in Axl, so hopefully I get that fucker in my sweaty little palm and love it as much as I think I will.  I NEED THIS CD LIKE I NEED AIR.

I'm with ya dude. It's hard to imagine the payoff that we'll all receive for holding onto hope that the album will come out. It will be the the equivalent of a gigantic orgasm. But yeah, it will be strange. As amazing as I believe the album will be, the shock will have to wear off eventually, and it will be really odd not having to get on here everyday and argue with people about how Axl hasn't duetted with Lionel Richie. It will be a continuous effort, though, since this album will be the first of many. A new era, if you will...

Tommy's tour ends in early september. Tommy Stinson doesn't need to be ther eto promote the record. Promotion can be done in 1-2 months.

I hate to break your bubble, but stop passing your anti november 04 idealistic pov's as truth.

Good Thread.

At one point or another, every GNR hard fan has had exactly the same visuals. Some of us for a long ass fucking time, but yeah, the day CD comes out, it'll definitely be a day to remember.
