James Brown isnt a Frontman. He's just a singer. To be a frontman you got to be the leader of a group.

yessssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ok here is why prince is number 1
he has fronted two different bands the revolution and new power generation
Prince is a great frontman because he can sing dead on in concert, he gets the crowd goin crazy,he can dance plus he can play guitar so amazingly, he is slash and axl rolled into one
he plays every single instrument himself in the studio, he is prolific and he is a master of many different styles
i know most of u will disagree, but i love prince, axl and jon bon jovi equally, so considering axl's inactivity i think its great he came in at 7 (wheres scott weiland by they way)
anyhow Prince was a fantastic choice in my opinion, there is not one man alive as talented and can do what prince can do
name him i dare u, one guy that can compose, perform and do just everything better than prince, most performers are one dimensional meaning they can sing or play an instrument
prince does it all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think Freddie could sing dead on in concert, (Until aids took him) and I think his songs that he wrote were far incredible and one of a kind, he could also play piano rock. I would never put Prince that high but then again most of these lists are made by subscribers of the magazine or coked out Music Critics.

Prince is one of the greatest guitarists of all time, that pushes him over freddie!!!
spin doesnt seem like a prince crowd guys, honestly, i dont think people who read SPIN would vote prince number 1
prince does it all!

courtney love beat out steven tyler? That screws the whole lists credibility as far as i'm concerned. Who the hell were they polling for this one anyway? I also never knew that courtney was a man, considering her recent bouts with gynelocgical conditions....

Karen O. at #20 (directly in front of Ozzy Osbourne and Kurt Cobain) says everything. This list is a complete farce, and so is
Spin
for the most part.
Would have liked to see Axl higher (its kind of stretch to call Prince, James Brown and Elvis frontmen, when theyve always been largely singular entities - same for Reznor and Bowie - but whatever). Of course Weiland is omitted so they could make room for the likes of Karen O., Justin Hawkins, Jack White, Gwen Stefani, Deborah Harry, Chuck D. (who is great, but doesnt belong on this list - Public Enemy will forever be white rock journalists token choice for some sort of rap credibility), etc. Other artists omitted in favor of Karen O. and co. -
(Assuming they made some kind of Lennon stipulation) - Layne Staley, Eddie Vedder, Billy Corgan, Brian Johnson, Ian Astbury, Black Franics, Paul Westerberg, James Hetfield, Maynard Keenan (Im not much of a fan personally, but Id gladly take his hype over Karen O.s),....Nothing against Karen O., shes good, but an all-time list? Hell, Id rather see Jack Black on there. For a singer whos identity is little more than one hit single released within the last year?
Im missing a ton others more worthy, but the point is clear: This list is complete bullshit. Its about as bad as
Rolling Stone
leaving Slash, Jerry Cantrell, and Dave Navarro out of the top 100 guitarists...but not forgetting, of course, to put Jack White at 17.
I will admit, however, that I was pleased to see the recognition of Liam Gallagher and Morrissey.

Ok it says frontmen and last time i checked
Gwen Stefani
was definately a women
Axl
getting 7 considering his short lived career, his absence from the scene is quite impressive it's deserved obviously but few times is he recognised for what he truly deserves speaking of not being recognised where the fuck is
Dave Wyndorf
not in the top 50
that really pisses me off he's fronted 2 bands, written some of the greatest songs ever....well i guess it's true what people say he is rocks unsung hero

Where is Eric Clapton??
Fronted Cream, Derek and the Dominos, Yardbirds (rotating frontmen), solo.....
As far as musical ability there are few people who can even hope to play a guitar 1/10th as good as Eric Clapton
He is in the R&R Hall of fame with three groups and as a solo artist
the thing that should catapult him to number one over Prince is that he never wore a pare of assless pants on stage....

i should win something.
i've always wanted one of those gorillas with the boxing gloves that you usually win from the fair or a carnival or something like that. i never get to win one. everytime i saw someone walk around with one massive one that was the same size as them i felt like stealing it and running. it was just gigantic.
and why do they put boxing gloves on a gorilla, i mean gorilla's don't box, and they don't even box in cartoons either. maybe they should have kangaroos with boxing gloves. because although kangaroos in real life don't have boxing gloves (trust me i live in australia.....and NO i don't ride one to work.........if i had a job) in cartoons kangaroos have boxing gloves. like this one cartoon with sylvester the cat(no not tom) chasin after some mouse, but in this warehouse there's this kangaroo and it absolutely kicks the shit out of sylvester. wait........that didn't have boxing gloves at all, all it did was kick.
cartoons never make sense. like bloody wil e coyote, if he could buy all those acme things why doesn't he just buy some damn food. and no wonder he was so thin you never see him eat. all you see is him with acme crap. i didn't think acme was real, but one day i was listening to my discman, and all of a sudden it stopped. i pressed play and the other buttons but nothing happened. so i look to check the batteries and guess what i find. a fucking pair of ACME batteries, no wonder they didn't work.
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanyway, yeah i think people don't like prince because they don't get past all the sexual innuendos and weirdness and what not which is a shame cuz people just disregard his music straight away. i don't even know most of prince's songs but he's a damn good musician, maybe no1 frontman i dunno depends who's making the list. hell i don't care what someone looks like or whateva, i listen to music. not watch it. all those idiots that say prince is too gay should do that too.
i wore a raaaaaaaasberry berret..............just like the kind i bought from a second hand store for example an antique store, but then again antique store's don't sell hats. can you see i'm in a talkative mood tonight.

There is a positive side to this. All the teeny boppers and hipsters who are into Jack White, Karen O, will see Axl on this list. It doesnt hurt to be associated with whoever is cool right now. At least he wasnt snubbed like Slash was on the RS 500 Guitarist list.
What's strange is that if they are going to include women and solo acts (like Bowie), why did they omit Janis Joplin, Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth, or Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac.

All these lists are bullshit!! You can't put frontmen like Axl,Prince,Freddie Mercury or Elvis on the same list!! They are totally different and appeal to different people.
