Izzy Best GnR guitarist EVER

I'm not talking about his on stage presence. If you just look at GnR, (espially the fast songs) you can see how much IZZY did for GnR he wrote / cowrote some of the best songs for GnR. I believe that is why there was no followup to UYI since Izzy was gone. Slash might of been a better solo/riff player and on stage presence, but God Bless Izzy's writing all the way back to Hollywood Rose to his 117 degrees. God Bless you Izzy

I agree. I always prefered Izzy over Slash songwriting wise.

i would have to agree in saying that izzy's a great guitarist when looking at his songwriting ability.  however, i still prefer slash.  putting all technical aspects of his chops aside, he too is a great songwriter.  what i'm talking about here is his ability to create powerful and fascinating melodies in his mind and manifest them in his playing without any musical theory to push him along.  take estranged for example.  i really need to get ahold of some of izzy's solo releases though; how do they compare to gilby's?

Well, he was a great writer but that doesn't mean he's a great guitarist... there are far better rythym players in my opinion, although Izzy isn't a hack.

A great writer yes... but a dime a dozen guitarist.

Wasn't it Izzy that turned the band onto Hanoi Rocks?  I can't remember where the quote was and I'm too lazy to find out but somebody said that Izzy was the one that used to make Axl up originally.  Izzy was the one that started 'the glam rock type of thing'.

Yeah, Izzy introduced Hanoi Rocks to Axl, who then got into them as well. If you look at the video to Paradise City, you can notice that Izzy has ripped off Andy McCoy's trademark 'spin with the guitar'.

this record was done back in 2002, but hasn't been released yet.

I think that his time with "the project" happened after this record was made

I love Izzy's work. He's one of the best songwriters of all time. His solo albums are amazing. 'Ride On' is his masterpiece, IMHO. In a perfect world, it would be on Rolling Stones top 500 albums of all-time. Oh well.

It's kind of sad that no one has really heard his solo work, outside of the die-hards. And it's a pain in the ass to pay 30 dollars to have to get it, via Amazon.
