  I think it was the Rollingstone review of the Hollywood Rose demos that said the songs had staccato guitars.  I dont know if this is a stupid question but what are staccato guitars?  anyone know?

Staccato merely describes a note that is drastically different than another, like a high note-to-low note.

Actually, Stacatto is a way of playing, they are short chopped notes.  Legato would be a long drawn out note.

Yeah, like as soon as the note is played, you mute it or let up on the string, so there is a rest or silence from the guitar until the next note is played.

Staccato in a guitar idiom is essentially picking out every note, where as Slash is a fairly legato style player.
