When all I've got is precious time

« on: July 01, 2004, 10:41:14 PM »

from IGN.com

Q: What are the radio stations and what licensed music is in here?
This hasn't been revealed at all yet, but we do know that San Andreas is intended to be a representation of California as a whole, which we know from experience to be a mixture of various styles, including alternative, hip-hop, rap, metal, and everything in-between. Since the game takes place during the turbulent early 90s, it wouldn't be surprising to hear Guns 'n Roses, Vanilla Ice, NWA, and the Beach Boys. It's definitely not rap specific, anyway.

Interestingly enough, we've received reports that several radio stations in Los Angeles have reported that Nine Inch Nails "Head Like A Hole" will make an appearance in the game, but that report has never been substantiated by a Rockstar spokesperson

So a song from old-GNR may be on an upcoming video game.  That's cool, but wake me when nu-GNR releases something.  My alarm is set for 2006.

Hey dave, you might wanna put a question mark on the thread subject, reading that and then reading your post, it's kind of inaccurate. Anyways, I wouldn't be all that pleased with an old gn'r song on gta, They have been releasing plenty of old music lately. And i'd be pretty upset if gn'r were on a soundtrack with the likes of vanilla ice.  rant it would probably make me take a page out of crowebar's playbook by projectile vomiting.

If duff and slash have anything to do with this, you know a song will be on there.
Not sure what song they would put but it would be an illusion song since the game takes place in the early 90s.

Nov rain is too long, so id probably say it would be something like dont cry or ycbm

Correct me if Im wrong, but Duff and Slash have yet to win those rights...so it would appear that Axl would have to go and give this one the okay.

Care to entertain us with a few preemptive excuses?

Not true. Slash and duff have a say with Axl on  a song making a movie or a game.
If slash and axl disagree Duff is the tie breaker.
That is how its always been.
The whole lawsuit thing is duff and slash suing Axl because they claim they were left out of the loop for a few songs not making a movie.
Remember? Now lets not change the subject.

The subject is GNR music being licensed to video game...Which is what Im discussing.  Im just curious how those lauding Axl a few months back for not "whoring" out GNRs music justify this.  Itll obviously have to have Axls approval, since all of those movies were turned down because of him.

I dont know much regarding who has the say in allowing songs to make movies/games but wasnt Axl denied by SLash in his attempt to put the new version of WTTJ in Blackhawk Down?

stoopid me.  I actually believed for a moment that it would be a nuGNR song.  But GNR without any prefixes attached implies old-GNR, at least according to this thread.

It will definitely be something from 'Illusions', my bet would be 'You Could Be Mine'.

I don't really know if there is anything to be outraged by yet. It doesn't say anything about having permission, sounds more like wishful thinking from the people who want it on there.

Not that this is the thread for it, but Booker, those people were actually talking about not giving permission for Guns N' Roses songs to be on any every and any shit films/games/etc that ask for permission. Releasing a song for a game that is one of the biggest ever and guaranteed to be a number 1 seller may not fall into that category, before you get yourself worked up about getting one over so called 'Axl Worshippers'.

As for licensing out UYI material - Has YCBM been in anything unrelated to Teminator II before?

Nu-GN'R could always just re-record Live And Let Die or Knockin' for use since Slash etc can't have a say in its release! Infact, imagine a new LALD with full on Axl screams through the guitar riffing ok

I doubt Guns N' Roses will be on the soundtrack at all, but if they are it will not be NuGnR. They seem to want to make it as accurate a soundtrack as possible (time frame). Also NuGnr isn't going to release a track, re-recorded or not for something like a video game.

Also at this point I wouldn't complain about GnR being on the same soundtrack as Vanilla Ice, because the way Axl is going he will probably be Ice's room mate on the next "Sureal Life."
