this would have been the set list most likely
Dead Flowers
You ain't the First
You're Crazy
Used to Love Her
Knocking on Heavens door
November Rain
Keep in mind the show would be half an hour.
And as much as you thought axls voice was messed up Cobain sounded like shit on the nirvana unplugged

This is for BabyGorilla and the people like him.
Before all my posts about subjective matters there should be an IMO before the post. I took this sig down but of course it has to go back up.

Its an 1 hour show.
And I think Kobain sounded good in the unplugged show. In fact thats the only Nirvana album I can listen too, because it doesnt have those shitty screams Cobain used to do. Its a great album

I remember reading somewhere that either Slash or Axl had wanted to do the MTV Unplugged show in the early-90s, but whichever one it was that wanted to, the other one didn't. I guess it was another sign of the impending split.
But I always wondered how such a show might have turned out - would it have even worked? Even back then I had some problems with Axl's voice, so I really wasn't sure he could pull off the acoustic You're Crazy, not to mention some of the other nutgrabbers he occasionally had problems with post-80s. Would they have picked boringly obvious songs like Patience and November Rain? Would their less obvious material have translated acoustically?
Anyway, I thought it might be interesting for us to speculate how that show might have gone. Keep in mind that this was when Nirvana was every music writer's wet dream and Guns was considered dead and bloated. So this program would have been a sort of comeback for them, something like Elvis's 68 comeback perhaps, when everyone thought the Beatles had made him obsolete and that incredible performance (the inspiration for Unplugged, by the way) aired on NBC and reminded everyone of the pre-Hollywood Elvis that changed the course of history. It was possibly his finest moment.
Could Guns have done that? How would they have sounded without the huge amps? What kind of things would Axl have talked about, Nirvana? Setlist?
I know that they did something like this on the Skin n Bones tour, but Unplugged would likely have to have a bit more advanced and featured a more varied setlist.
My only setlist wish/guess is that they would have done Breakdown.
edit: My other "only" request is Jumpin Jack Flash - love the acoustic demo.
As much as I enjoy your posts JBlood, your comments about Guns being dead and bloated in the early 90's make me wanna take you back in time to 1992 to prove you wrong. Anyway, as this already belongs to the Dead Horse section, I'll carry on with the topic. Had GNR done an unplugged, this songs could've made the setlist:
In no specific order...
Patience
Don't Cry
Used to Love Her
Brownstone
Move to the City
Dead Horse
Knocking on Heavens Door
Yesterdays
SCOM
You Ain't the first
Jumping Jack Flash
Since I don't Have You.
Edit.
I just looked at some of your answers, and my guess and DJM ( the unplugged from Scotland) was quite similar....

Seriously guys, you've got to have You ain't the first in there. I play that at partys all the time, when my guitar comes out at 3am. Total acoustic classic, and a kick in the teeth to any bitch!! Lol

There is that one unplugged show they did in 1987 at the Limelight or CBGBs? Maybe someone knows for sure. But they did Move to the City, Mr. Brownstone, Patience, One in a Million (only time ever), and Used to Love Her. It's a good, short show.

in my dreams, guns n roses unplugged would have Izzy on board, it would be only the five of them (ok, put dizzy there if you have to), woud be played with the same feel that they played that gig on CBGB 87, and would have a setlist like this one:
Nightrain
- yes, this is the ultimate acoustic song
Think About You
- this one should be on EVERY gnr setlist
-- Band says hi --
Bad Obsession
- another one who would explode, specially with Izzy charming backing vocals
Dead Flowers
- because it is so good, because Izzy got Used to Love Her from it, and because Izzy would love to play it.
You are Crazy
- insane one
Move to the City
- it really works accoustically
Dust n' Bones
- Izzy sings it
Ain?t it fun
- this one should sound different
-- Little pause --
Patience
- with the "original" whistle axl did on CBGB?s
Jumping Jack Flash
- just check the studio demo and learn "How to improve vocal lines in one lesson with professor Bill Bayley, from Indiana"
Sweet Child o' Mine
- wooooow
-- break 1 --
November Rain
- guitar version - sorry axl, no piano
One in a Million
- this song is really good
Sweet Caress
- this song should really be sung by axl & izzy together
