I don't think it sounds like a Smashing Pumpkins song. But it sure is a fucking great song.

To me this song sounds Very STPish (shangri-ladeeda era) even the guitar tone and such.

Yeah, theres shades of "Wonderful" and "Hello, Its Late"...Dont know what Smashing Pumpkins song it sounds like though...?
I was just listening to the song while driving, and it gave me chills. Such a geuinely beautiful, haunting song. To say Im impressed is an understatement. Everybody is perfect on this song. I hope they make this one a single with a video...

I like it, it really reminds me of Pink Floyd. But I think out of all the ballads on the album, the best solo is in YGNR. The solos in both FTP and LTA kinda go nowhere, whereas the one in YGNR builds and builds until its climax.

Loving the Alien gives off the feeling of Comfortbaly Numb by Pink Floyd. It's a very beautiful song. The best on the record IMO

If you guys want to hear a song that sounds ALOT like LTAS, listen to a live track by Ben Harper called "The Drugs Don't Work".

i think it sounds alot like bowie. weiland sounds like bowie not only on this song but on others (especislly their KROQ acoustic set), but the whole vibe of this song reminds me of ol' ziggy stardust sometimes when i listen the image of him all decked out like an alien singing pops into my head lol

In an otherwise excellent album i think this is the weakest song
I really don't like this - its too sappy for me - half way through i feel like screaming 'for gods sake man, pull yourself together!!!'
Lacks something...

I think it sounds like.. uhm, a mix of Pink Floyd & Guns N' Roses.. It's Kind Of Reminds Me Of Patience & SCOM.. And The Solo In Loving The Alien Is So Fucking Great.. Oh Man, I Love To Loving The Alien

It's a hit song. Definetely. But what does it need is a great/classic solo, now it doesn't have one. (as some one also mentioned in some thread).

If you guys want to hear a song that sounds ALOT like LTAS, listen to a live track by Ben Harper called "The Drugs Don't Work".
"Drugs don't work" is not by Ben Harper. Ben always performs it live but the song is by british band "The Verve" "Loving the Alien" is the best song of Contraband. The Chorus guitar may sound like " Today, Today" by the Smashing Pumpkins but slower. I don't see the resemblence with wonderwall, it does sound like Oasis "Half the world away" though.
