I was just wondering about this as I saw Avril is on top of the charts with 381,000. I would have to say I am expecting VR to come in anywhere from about 80,000-150,000. I think those are realistic numbers and anything north of those would have to be considered a major success as a debut release of a new band regardless of their pedigree. This is the type of album that will sell it copies over the long haul if a more successful single hits later on. A full scale tour will help down the road as well. What does everyone else think?

It could very well make it 2 the number one spot most GN'R and STP fans will buy and of course young people who have heard VR and liked them will buy it.

I think it will sell well and capture a new audience along the way.

I don't know if former Guns n Roses fans will be impressed though.

Are you smoking something? I love teh guys but Avril lavigne just sold 381,000 copies her first week, and she is mega popular. There is no way VR will sell that in what week, I wish it would, but those types of #'s are reserved for Eminem and Usher, not less established acts like VR who are releasing their debut album.

Were talking about avril here. Who buys her cd's? 13 year old girls.

Velvet Revolver has a much wider fan base already. Ask any rock fan 15-55 who Velvet Revolver is and the words Slash or Guns N Roses will come up.

If the album is priced right it will sell more than avril's

Its tough to gauge how much this will do...but Im guessing that 150,000 is a safe number.  Itll most likely debut in the top 3.

I thought it was shipping a million copies for some reason.

I edited it to 3/4 of the amount shipped, 450,000.

It will be # 1. There is not another record this week that can compete

No, theres no debuts competing that week, but its always possible that Avril and Slipknot will have little drop-off and maintain high sales for the second week.

It will be No 2 on Billboard here in the US. It will edge out Slipknot for the second spot but it would outsell Avril.  I'm pretty there are enough young punks (skater bois!) and old perverts out there to put that Album at no 1 again. It will probalby sell 250,000 or so in its second week. I think VR will be compareable to GNR hits in its first week. Look for it to sell around 200-225,000 copies in its first week.

I don't think EVERY STP and EVERY GNR fan is gonna buy it. We have to assume there is 10 million people in the US who have AFD, lets say half of them are true GnR fans. I dont think that they are gonna sell 5 million albums, much less the STP fans.

I dont want to be the one to ruin anyone's party but look for Contraband to Debut at No 2. Thats my guess.

I would say anywhere between 200,000 and 300,000 copies.  There is a really good buzz for this record, and I think it will sell in the hundreds of thousands and stay Top Ten for at least the first several weeks of its release.  I don't really care very much about charts, but how cool would it be to have VR debut at number one?  I think they can do it.  The only other notable release on Tuesday that I'm aware of is the Gene Simmons record, and that might do 100,000 at the very most.

I expect it to do 120,000-200,000 first week, then drop like a rock to 30-60,000 in week 2 once the new Beastie Boys album comes out.  This album may SHIP a million copies in the US first month, but no chance in hell that this manufactured (read:hand picked by Clive Davis to sell some records for his sorry-assed label) band will sell anywhere near as many copies as some of you think.  Come back and let's chat again in 4 weeks when it is floating around the #20 or #25 spot, selling 15K a week.
